:cheer: We are thrilled that our II trade just came through for Ocean Pointe at Thanksgiving. We're thinking about flying into Fort Lauderdale and renting a car there to drive down to Palm Beach. Has anybody done this - does it make sense to do in terms of driving time (it does in terms of airfare)? Anybody have any suggestions for Thanksgiving dinner in Palm Beach? Any 'don't misses' in terms of things to do? (In case it isn't obvious this will be our first visit to this lovely resort!)

Davey,

Congratulations. FYI, Ocean Pointe is north of the Fort Lauderdale Airport - so you will be driving up to Ocean Pointe. It's a very doable drive - about an hour depending on the traffic and your arrival time.

If you haven't already - go to the Tug "US - Florida" forum. Toward the top of the forum you will see a "SE Florida Website Links" Sticky. Click on that hyperlink. Lots of good info.

Don't have a restaurant suggestion for you, but I'm sure other Tuggers will chime in.

Have a good trip.

Richard

While we prefer to fly into PBI (Palm Beach Airport), we will fly into FLL (Fort Lauderdale) if there's a big enough price difference. Just be aware that Fort Lauderdale does big time cruise ship business and the airport can be really busy in the late morning through early evening with cruise ship passengers trying to get home. It can be really congested on Saturday and Sunday if your flights leave at 11:00 AM or later.

Davey:
We have had several meals at the Sailfish Marina. Over the years, unfortunately, the food & service as gone down. (Before OP, the place seemed much better)

Do you mind the price for something your family will never forget?

They haven't got it all down yet, but when they do, I'll get an e mail to copy to you & post here.

http://www.thebreakers.com/

They will have 2 Thanksgiving Dinners. Both will start at 3 PM to.....

The Buffet in the Ponce de Leon Ballroom ends at 8 PM
If it is anything like what we had a few years ago...it ain't just Turkey...( Lobster?, Shellfish?, ...they didn't post it yet, but I think whatever, even just Turkey...the place will be unforgettable to you & the family...the place is beautiful

The dinner in the Flagler Steakhouse ends at 9 PM. ( I was never in the Flagler place...but it can;t surpass any of the Breakers BAllrooms (I don't think)

They are also checking on the Wednesday tour of the buildings...if it will be 'on'.

Also, there are coupons for a very good place near the Breakers called Testas here:

Please don't go by the TA reviews. They are trying to pull people to West Palm Beach. This place is good & nice ( but I don't think open on Thanksgiving): (One coupon is not good after Oct I don't think). It is near the Flagler Museum across from one of the Breakers Golf Courses.

We did not like Charlies Crab...but has good view

Thanks all for helpful responses...

We are really excited about our first trip to MOP! Thanks one and all for your very helpful responses!

KenK - we will check out those sticky links. The Breakers buffet sounds ideal for a Thanksgiving dinner we'll never forget! (We are very interested, please do cc us on the email you get with the details.) We'll keep the other suggestions in mind too for other fun, memorable meals in the Palm Beach area...

Thanks again one and all, please keep those suggestions/replies coming!

Dave...

I forgot to ask what will be on the buffett...but I think they will post on the website. I also forgot about asking about dress code ( Might still be places that want a sport coat. It says you need to reserve...and please show up or they will charge you $50.00!!!

The tour (TUESDAY THIS WEEK) with Mr Ponce is very good. ( But it used to be less) I don't know if $125 is a lot for you for the dinner....it seems like a lot to me....I would still go to the buffet..but I also should go to weight watchers..... :(

They will stamp your parking ticket so it will be free. (But the valet probably likes tips)

Here is the message I received today:

"...
