Maui Ocean Club Lahaina Tower...quick thoughts

We took the kids to Maui for the long weekend ( Monday Holiday) and stayed at the MOC Lahaina tower 2 bedroom via an II trade got during flexchange.

I was very excited to stay at the Lahaina tower to see the new rooms since MOC is our favorite resort.

Here is our thoughts:

- layout of the unit seemed backwards. In the living room, the couch is situated with you facing the parking garage to watch the tv. So, instead of looking out a window to see the view, you stared out and looked right into the garage. ( we had unit 3203/3204 )
- the master bedroom is the unit farther from the ocean.
- the balcony is off the bedrooms and is quite small. We like the long balcony on the hotel side. The hotel balconies are more inviting and we would always sit outside.
- our kids did like the little playground
- the lobby of the Lahaina tower looks like a the lobby of an apartment building, not that of an oceanfront resort

We still had a great time at MOC but I don't think Marriott did a very good job in the Lahaina tower. We think Koolina has a better layout.

We did get a price list if anyone wants the info.

Aloha,
Jen

Hi Jen-

We were there in a two bedroom unit last month, also a Flexchange exchange. Our unit was on the 5th floor facing the Hyatt, closest unit to the mountains. I agree with you on the position of the couch facing the mountains. I wondered about the same thing during our stay- that the couch on the other side of the room would face the ocean and have a great view!

However, I did like the view of the mountains, it was just not an ocean view. Our unit did have amazing ocean views (it was a garden view unit) from the balcony and also the living room (but not from the couch).

I was very impressed but have never stayed at the Maui Marriott since the timeshare conversion. We stayed there several times when it was a Marriott hotel. It's a great location!!

The Ko'Olina lobby is much nicer than the lobby in the Lahaina tower at MOC. However the newer building at Ko'Olina doesn't have much in the way of a lobby. Guess they figure each property just needs one fancy lobby area. You're right about the "apartment building" lobby, but it didn't really bother me.

I did receive a price list also, but I'm not sure where it is. If I still have it I'll post prices.

Here are the prices:

MOC Suites ( Older units )

1 bedroom ocean front $ 38700
1 bedroom ocean view $ 35500
1 bedroom mountain $ 28200
1 bedroom island view $ 24200

2 bedroom ocean front $ 61700
2 bedroom ocean view $ 55000
2 bedroom mountain $ 44400

Lahaina Villas

2 bedroom ocean front $ 70900
2 bedroom ocean view $ 63700
2 bedroom mountain $ 52400

Aloha,
Jen

When you trade into MOC, how can you tell if you traded into a unit in the new Lahaina tower versus a unit in the original buildings? In other words, is it possible to tell prior to arrival? Are the new units all 2 bedrooms (no lockouts)? Thanks.

They are totally different reservations, just like 2 different resorts, so there will be no confusion to which building you are in.

When you look online on II, the Lahaina tower units have the full kitchen.

Actually, the code in II is MMO (not MOC) and there appears to be no separate code for the newer Lahaina Tower. So as an exchanger (if we should get so lucky!) I expect I will not know which section we're in until we arrive.

Ocean Front at lower price

Actually, they have ocean front units in the Lahaina tower for lower prices - depending on time of year. I bought mine for 58,000 (4th week). The ocean front units for October were around 52,000.

thank you! So, Lahaina tower is only 2 bedrooms with full kitchens? That makes it pretty easy.

2bedroom full kitchen = lahaina tower.

Anything else (2 bedroom limited kitchen, 1 bedroom, or studio) original buildings.

Right?

This is what I just saw on II. It showed the 1 bedroom unit as a full kitchen so I know it is in the Lahaina tower. The studios you don't know which tower you will get.

If you go to Marriott.com and look up your reservation number, it shows you if you are in Lahaina tower. I looked mine up so I new we were there.

We were there in September and we had rooms 8201/8202. We were above the parking garage so from the couch we had a view of the mountains. When we walked out of our bedroom every morning we had a gorgeous view of the ocean. It would have been nice to have a balcony in the living room. I had not even thought about it, but the guest room was closest to the ocean. We thought the units were wonderful, a step up from anything else we have seen.

One thing that I thought was a little strange, though, was a long hallway when we walked in. The washer dryer unit was in that hallway. I thought maybe ours was different because it was a corner unit. The entrance didn't bother us.

We looked at the Westin while we there. If we had a choice, we would go back to the Marriott. The lock-off is a little nicer at the Westin, but we liked the location of the Marriott is a lot better.
