Resorts: Marriott Grande Ocean
Where would you go for Xmas week?

I am looking to find out where we should go for Xmas week with the following constraints. I have an AC I want to use during the flex period which starts tomorrow. I am thinking of either going to the Poconos or Atlantic City. These are near our home so it is easy to drive to. We have two little ones (5 and 3), so activities are important like a good indoor pool. I have thought about either the split rock or lake harmony resorts or the Marriott Fairway villas. I am leaning toward the Marriott because I own one and know what I am getting plus we have been to MFV twice before. On the other hand I want to try something new and this AC gives me the chance on the cheap. What does everyone think?

Hello! I live in Pennsylvania, and once a few years back, we made a trip to Mountain Laurel Resort in the Poconos over Easter break, because, like you, it was close. The resort was nice, but nothing to brag about. Our son was about six at the time (I can't remember what year it was that we went) and he really enjoyed it. While we were there we had about a foot of snow fall on our first day. Lots of people were sled riding outside. We watched from our balcony. (Nice view, by the way!) There was an iceskating rink outside--but I don't recall if it was open or not. I know we didn't see anyone skating, but that doesn't necessarily mean it was closed. On Easter, they had lots of special activites for the children. They had egg dying, an egg hunt, prizes, games, and the Easter Bunny made a special visit, and more! So I would imagine that they would arrange some special activities for Christmas too. And you could also go to Split Rock to use their facilities. At Split Rock they had bowling and a movie theater among other things. Also on site at Mountain Laurel were some restaurants and an ice cream shop and a game room. I'm sure I am forgetting some things too! But overall, the resort was very kid-friendly. And I would think that if there is snow, then the Poconos is the place to go. I hope this helps!

We are going to Williamsburg for Christmas. I am looking forward to our stay there. (We've been there several times, but only during the summer.) I imagine it to be very beautiful during Christmas. And if you look at the Williamsburg website, there are a lot of activities for children during the holidays there too. I'm not sure if this is some place that you would consider or not.

I recommend the Galleria building at Split Rock. You don't have to get dressed up and drive the car since the indoor pool, movie theater, bowling alley, game room, restaurant, and all the other activities are right there in the same building as your room. If you get one of the townhouses, you will get tired of getting everyone ready just to drive to the Galleria.

Williamsburg.
Fairly easy drive, lots of places to stay including the Marriott Fords Colony and Sequel, lots to do and see, the kids will love it!

Phillie,
Have you made a decision yet? I am curious to find out where you plan to go.

Phillie:

On the cheap? Do you have to pay for the use of the AC? Is a 2 bed 2 bath $299.00? Can you use it for the Marriott? ( You can not use it if they gave it to you from giving them the Marriott in the first place.)

Just check so you will not be disappointed.

Also. have you also checked the getaway lists on II ? Sometimes the rates are cheaper than what the AC may cost.

answers to the above

We decided on going to the Marriott. We got a Friday to Friday for 299 for a two bedroom. There were restrictions on the AC prior to the flex period. I could go to MFV but not Xmas week so I had to wait for flex period to get it. The getaways were a lot more, I imagine because x-mas is popular in Atlantic City. This will be our first use of an AC for trading in our Marriott Grande Ocean this year. For the trade we got the AC and the Newport Coast Villas location in CA for next summer. If this goes well then we will probably some of our other ACs at MFV as well. We have three more to use before the middle of summer.
