Thanksgiving turkey at Hilton Head?
We're going to Hilton Head for Thanksgiving(staying at Marriott's Surfwatch) and I'm trying to figure out what to do for thanksgiving. Does anyone know where I can get a fried turkey? If not, a regular roasted turkey would be fine also. My last choice is to cook one myself, as it was a disaster last year. Cooking is just not my thing! Thanks a lot.

turkey in HHI
Try SIgnes or some of the supermarkets.. Fresh Market I think is one of the more " gourmet " supermarkets and I am sure they will be helpful... SIgnes Bakery also has alot of meals already done up... both are excellent...

A friend just told me that Red Hot Mama's was advertising fried and smoked turkey's for Thanksgiving. All the grocery stores sell complete meals during the holiday period so you might check with Harris Teeter, Piggly Wiggly, Food Lion, Bi-Low, Publix. The grocery stores usually include dressing, pototoes, green beans, rolls, pumpkin pie etc. There will also be restaurants advertising that they will be serving Thanksgiving food. I haven't seen any ads yet, but I'll post again if I see any in this week's paper.

Beware Turkey Jerkey
Rented a beachfront home for a family Thanksgiving gathering several years ago and put my turkey in at 350 degrees for 2.5 hours to check progress. I found a tough bird that yeilded only what can be described as turkey jerkey. Not that bad if that was what you were aiming at but not dinner fare. The home had a convection oven that cooks MUCH faster. Watch out and good luck. Yours, Jim

Cooking Turkey Dinner
We've been at timeshares for Thanksgiving and Christmas several times, and made excellent easy dinners using convenience foods:
Boneless Turkey Breast Tenderloin - comes in a vacuum pack, put it in the oven for whatever time is on the label (around 40 minutes?), tender, delicious, no bones, no waste Canned gravy pre-made mashed white or sweet potatoes in a tub canned cranberry sauce stove-top or other stuffing mix pre-made frozen or bakery pie It's easy, and if you've got kids it can be more relaxing to just hang out at the resort than going to a restaurant, not to mention less expensive AND you get leftovers! |
