Smile Hooray for Ding Fares!

On Monday night I booked 4 of us to LV for early December. The cost was 109 each way, for a total of $1050. Great deal! yesterday, I checked fares again and the fares had increased to $214 each way. I was so glad I had booked. Then...This morning I got a ding fare and the price was $83 each way! Naturally I rebooked, and now have a lovely credit of $208 for our next adventure!!

Gotta love those Ding Fares!

Ding is my favorite friend!!

Everytime I purchase tickets, I always end up getting them lower with Ding and use the credit to take another trip.

I have become the family travel agent because of DING!!

Glad you got awesome tickets to LV. I visited there in July and used Ding for my purchase.

Enjoy your trip!!

I don't believe Southwest ever charges a fee/rebooking charge. At least they never have in my experience. All changes I've ever made have been without charge and the credit is there to be used for my next flight.

Southwest doesn't have any fees for cancellation of airfare. You will have a credit that can be applied to travel within 1 year of the date you originally purchased your tickets. Additionally, the credit does NOT have to be used by the same person. In otherwords, you can book the original flight in your name, cancel the flight and get credit, and re-book a different flight for yourself or anyone else, using that credit.

Ummmm, what are Ding Fares? I seemed to have missed the discussion as to the particulars. Thanks

At Southwest.com, there is a program that you can download to your computer called "DING". As long as you have it actively runnig, southwest will post specials throughtout the day for certain flights and locations.

The DING rates can only be seen using this software and can only be booked thru this software.

By re-booking do you mean to change a flight to get a lower fare? Or just to change a flight to a different date? When I've made any kind of change I've just gone into my account on the Southwest website, pull up my reservation and make the changes. I haven't done it in awhile so I can't exactly visualize the steps or exactly what happens, but I do remember it being very simple.

From the front page of southwest.com there are four large white boxes very prominent on the screen. The last one reads View or Change Your Flight.

When you click that it asks for your confirmation # and the name of whom purchased the ticket. Once entered it will show your flights and provide you the option to change either or both legs of your trip.

If the new flight costs more than the original it will ask for more $$, if it's less it will provide you a credit with a reference number to apply toward future travel. I've done it twice now and it really doesn't get much simpler than the way they have it set up.

I agree with "hurray for Ding!" I have been watching fares from SLC to Orlando and they have been running between $525 and $700. Southwest just opened March 7th on, which allows us to book for our March 8 visit to Star Island and guess what- we booked two tickets for $899 (Ding alerted us that the schedule had opened past March 7). Now I'm getting really excited to visit Florida for the first time.

I'm upset about Ding. I have Vista operating system and it's not compatible with Ding, so I can't get it. WAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHH!

I love Southwest. Not only are the ding fares great. So is thier customer service; they are one of the best if not the best.

I have had the opportunity to get buddy passes from one of my friends. Even though to Southwest they are non rev, the customer service department has helped me pick the flights that are less crowded. Everyone from the flight attendants, ticket agents, telephone agents treat me great. We always fly SWA from SLC to Florida (lots of family in both places)
