Question Manhattan Club Studio

We have a studio that sleeps 4. We want to invite another couple for the weekend. They would stay with us Saturday and Sunday nights only. Is the studio too small for 4 to fit? Last time I was at MC, we had a one bedroom and that would be fine for 4, but I wonder about the studio. Anyone been in one? Thank you.

The studios have many different configerations and sizes. Best case senerio would be a L shaped studio which has a separate sleeping area but no door because there's no window. Either way one couple has to sleep on a pull out sofa and there really won't be privacy. We called ahead and requested a L shaped studio and luckily received one.

Resorts: Marriotts, Manhattan Club, Arubas, numerous HH and others. Too Many!
The one I was in recently seemed pretty roomy. Bed off to one side. Couch a little way away - but almost directly in front on it. No privacy - but good place to stay. I'd stay with another couple there if we had too. Hope no one snores.

I am currenly in a studio that has an occ of 2 although the couch is a foldout. It is approximately the same size as a nice roomon a cruise ship but doesn't make use of the space nearly as well.

Thanks everyone

I appreciate your posts. I was reading some old posts about L shaped studios. Think I will request one of them so we have a bit more room for the 2 days our friends will be with us. Anyone stay in one of the L shaped rooms? I wish we had taken a 1 bedroom now. It was available, but I figured since it was just the 2 of us, I would save some $$ on that fee they charge at MC.

Ruth,

It's my understanding that all the MC Studios are L-shaped except for the new studio group that just opened on the second floor (I forget what the name of that new Studio group is). Yes, there are different configurations to the L-shaped studios which amounts to whether the alcove portion where the bed is located extends to your right when you enter the room or extends toward your left as you enter and also whether the bathroom is on your right or left as you enter. The Studios have one bathroom.

The rooms like the one you previously stayed in that have a separate bedroom with closing french doors also have 2 bathrooms. I think the MC policy is one-bedroom units are assigned for Friday check-ins and the Studio units are assigned for Saturday check-ins.

The new Studio group on the second floor is basically square-shaped and do not have a small table and chairs like the older Studio units do.

While the Studio units say they will accomodate 4 (pull out couch in the living room area), it definitely will be cramped and will require bathroom waits. So depending on your comfort level and degree of friendship will help you decide what to do.

Have a good trip.

Richard

Thanks Richard

Yes, it will be tight. We usually don't travel like this, but my best friend and her husband are both from NYC and would love a quick visit. She and I went out together 2 years ago and stayed in the one bedroom. Another girlfriend went along and we had plenty of room for the 3 of us. But, we did have 2 bathrooms. So, if they come we will just be sardines for 2 days. Thanks for the info.

Richard I don't think that's correct we saw some studios for 4 that were all open and this was before the new small ones were built. Someone had a list of a while back of the different square footage and it definitely varies.

correct, there are many L's, but also some rectangle/shoebox shaped ones that are not the new Metropolitan suites (the Metropolitan suites are smaller). Even a non-L would be ok for two couples for a couple of nights. Not ideal, but ok. Larger than a hotel room.

I remember reading something about this in the past. I was checking old posts and found the info on the L shaped rooms, but did not come across the square footage. Thanks for reminding me.

If you are looking for the larger studios, they are:

1203, 1403, 1503 - 480 sq. ft.
1204, 1404, 1504 - 494 sq. ft.

1601 - 519 sq. ft.
1602 - 481 sq. ft.
1604 - 485 sq. ft.

These are all inside units behind the elevators. You can try calling to request a specific unit, it may work.

Have a great time in NY.

WOW, Thanks for the detailed info. By "inside" does that mean no windows?

The 'inside' studios have windows but they look out into a brick courtyard. There is no street view from these units. I have never stayed in the studios so the information is from the floor-plan.

As I am currently sitting in a 17th floor rectangular studio that I checked into on Friday I must disagree with most of the info posted by multiz321.

As forthe comfort of the foldout. I can tell you that it won't even support my 125lb wife SITTING on it as a couch without the cushions sinking inside the frame.

I will be writing a review later but it will not be pretty. I think I rate the MC as somewhere between a Motel 6 and a Super 8 but with a great location.

Candace, Avery, & Madherb,

I stand corrected. I had not seen any of the non-L shaped older Studios (the ones prior to the Metropolitan Units on the 2nd floor becoming available this year).

I'm not positive of this, but I seem to recall one of the sales reps mentioning that the MC has 224 units - not including the penthouse units and not including the Metropolitan Units. Does anyone know how many of the non-L shaped older Studios there are at the MC? I get the impression that they're fewer than the L-shaped units.

Also, while we've never used the couch pull-out bed feature, my wife and I did not think the couch was comfortable on either of our stays at the MC. So I'm not surprised at Madherb's comments on the couch/bed. I seem to recall someone mentioning the MC is replacing room furniture - with all the extra fees they collect from exchangers and their high maintenance fees, that certainly would be a blessing.

It'd be nice to get their internet wireless service more reliable too.

As has been mentioned before, the MC location is great and we wouldn't hesitate to stay their again if the opportunity presented.

Madherb -- I agree with your assessment of the MC. We were there in a 1 BR on the 18th floor in early October. Location is all it has going for it. The windows were filthy, there was not even a toaster in the partial kitchen. Only two small bowls (total) in unit supposedly for four people. Lots of street noise. Slow elevators. It took four requests to get a DVD player and when it was finally delivered it did not work properly.

I thought the fold-out couch was one of the more comfortable ones of that genre. That's not to say much, except that I didn't notice a "death bar" in the middle of it. When the fold-out is a problem, I usually just pull the mattress off and put it on the floor. That will usually solve the problem.
