Credit Cards that don't levy 3% charge

My son is going to India. Which charge card will not levy the 3% conversion charge? I don't think Discover Card does, but it is not accepted everywhere. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Resorts: Dikhololo & Silver Sands III (South Africa); Club Trinidad (Palm Springs, CA)
American Express is 2% for Mexico conversion. Our other cards were all 3%.

Capital One, no charge for forex transactions. They have many different cards, so make sure the one you pick has no forex fee.

The other way to go is through your credit union. CUs vary in what they charge. Some charge nothing, some just charge the 1% fee that the associations charge them.

I was going to mention your credit union too. Mine charge a 1% fee for my trip to Scotland, which is what VISA charged them. There were no other hidden fees, and I used ATMs that had no additional fees, so each withdrawal cost me what I took out, plus 1%.

0% currency fee

My Discover card doesn't charge a fee either for Mexico, maybe give them a try. I also learned when I contacted Discover about the fee that when you go outside of the USA and plan on using your card you are to let them know or when they see out of country charges they will freeze your card until they get a hold of you to make sure it is not credit card fraud!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
They also offer a type of insurance to help against fraud charges if they do occur while you are over seas and then when you come home you can discontinue it.

Before attempting to use Discover, call and see if the card is widely accepted in the country you are visiting. I found out years ago while on vacation that they didn't know what a Discover card was. Luckily I had another card in my wallet.

Discover Card

Sure 'nough. Called Discover today and they confirmed that Discover is NOT widely accepted in Mexico. NO wonder there is not a transaction fee!

Thanks for the heads up.

One more vote for your Credit Union. Mine charges no fees for cash withdrawal anywhere. Used it in USA, Mexico, Caribbean and all over Europe for pocket cash.

We use Charles Schwab Master card for international travel. As a courtesy to their customers they do not charge the 3%. We called all of our cc's & they were the only one with this policy.
