Navy Pier, Chicago?

We are taking our 15 and 17 year old sons to Chicago over Thanksgiving. We have done the museums several times and am wondering if anything fun would be going on at Navy Pier. We will do some shopping but I am wanting to throw a couple of other activities in the mix. We are also going to a couple of shows. I personally never get tired of the museums but they insist they have seen them enough over the years...... teenagers.Truthfully I am just thrilled they want to go with us. Timeshare vacations have definitely taught us to travel well together and have a great time!

Thanks for any information!

I took my teenage sons to Navy Pier yesterday. We went to the Imax and saw transformers. We wondered through much of the shopping and eating areas. We also rode the ferris wheel. With all the lights and Chicago lit up was fun.

Not a lot going on. I think we are between season. Evening was not to cold but not summer. Holliday things should be up around Thanksgiving and I imagine the area gets very decorated and busier again.

There is also a Childrens museum at Navy Pier. Parking was $23.00 as all of Chicago parking and traffic makes driving difficult.

We went to the Shedd Aquarium also. Lots more to see, but sounds like you have already done this.

To do in Chicago

Try to get tickets to A Christmas Carol at the Goodman theater. It is the best production I have ever seen. I really think your teenagers will love it.

We loved Chicago! Don't get there much any more because we moved to Kentucky. It is usually very cold there at Thanksgiving time, so dress accordingly. The wind really whips around.

Thanks so much for all of the help! I am thinking we may try Shedd Aquarium again, it has been several years since we have gone and I love that bright, sunny atmosphere. It does not look like too much is going on at Navy Pier, need to wait for summer I suppose.
We did see A Christmas Carol about 2 years ago and absolutely loved it. My boys are unfortunately at a too cool age so last year we saw Blue Man Group, which I did not like but they sure did. This year we are going to see Put the Nuns in Charge. They love comedy. My husband and I are going to see Phantom of the Opera. I am very excited about that! Last year he and I went to Wicked, which was absolutely fantastic.
Basically I just love the feel of Chicago after Thanksgiving. I love all of those people and all of that action. People watching is always fun!
I can't wait!
Thanks again!!

There's a great jazz music restaurant on the Navy Pier that all ages would enjoy. If Skinny Williams is playing his saxophone, by all means go there!

Parking fees

If you want to avoid the parking fees, there is a free trolley available. Simply google "chicago free trolley" for pick up spots. It has 2 or 3 routes. One will take you to Navy Pier, one to the museums, and I think one to Water Tower Place. I always get the trolley a couple blocks down the river from the Madison St. exit from the Olgive Transportation Center. You can check and see if the river cruises are still operating. That might be another option. Then there is the Sears Tower, Merchandise Mart, and Water Tower Place. Got some time on your hands, you can go South to Cottage Grove Ave (I think that's at 111th) to where the old Pullman factory and hotel are. (Florence Hotel). That's a great history lesson. There also might be something going on at McCormick Place- check that out. Have some late night fun at the House of Blues or just stop in for lunch there or at the Hard Rock.
