We will be at Malaekahana Beach Campgrounds and know little about it and the surrounding area. If you have been there, I would appreciate any information, pictures, etc.

Thanks, Ed F

I haven't been there, but when I did a google search, I came up with lots of info. This looks like a nice place, but in general, I would be leery of camping on Oahu because of the huge homeless population that lives in camp grounds and on beaches. Since this is a gated campground, hopefully, they have control of the situation.

Since we are mostly timesharers here, I don't know if you will find anyone who has camped there, and there are no timeshares in the area. I would try a more general travel board, like www.tripadvisor.com and post on the Oahu Forum.

Camping on Oahu: Very, very bad idea unless you can get into Bellows Military camp grounds where it is protected by the Military police. There is a lot of violent crime on the beach at night, especially on the west side of the island and the north shore. Even if you are not camping, I would not recommend going out there at night. If you want to camp, try Kauai or Maui.

When the drug afflicted people come arround its never good. They seem to camp next to the state parks to use the facilities. We would leave the area after dark unless you get invited to hang out with some locals and their friends and families.
