My husband and I met with a local company that sells RCI point plans. Is $15,000+/- a good deal for 40,000 points? We don't know if this is a good deal because we know others that have bought traditional times shares for $5,000 but of course they are limited to when/where. HELP?

Hi chuckie and welcome to TUG.

That is a terrible deal on RCI Points. Check out the "Points Systems" threads you will find several threads that discuss what is considered a good deal on RCI Points whether you are purchasing deeded property or RTU lease as the basis for your points.

Have fun learning.

Trying Before Buying.

These days it's possible to lease a nice points timeshare -- 3 years, renewable.

You try it for 3 years & re-up if you like it or drop it if you don't.

The word "larceny" comes immediately to mind...

You could lease 43,500 RCI points per year for considerably less than $1k, with only a 3 year (renewable) commitment. Another poster has provided a direct link to inquire further (I have no affiliation at all with the offering).

Remember that with any TS there are 2 costs associated with the TS.
1. Cost to purchase ($15K is a way too much to pay for a TS which will net you only 45,000 points)
2. Yearly Maintance fees These will vary greatly with each resort. but count on at least $500/year and some are more than $1200/year.

There are many people here on Tug which like RCI points, but you're thinking of paying >$10,000 too much for them.

I would say at least $13,500 to $14,200 if closing costs were included in that $15,000 price.

If the yearly maintence fees were more than 1 cent per point then it is even a bad deal on the ongoing maintenance fees.

I paid for one of our RCI Points ownerships about $1,500 for 53,500 RCI Points with yearly maintenance fees now of $450 in a resort we have had no problem renting out for more than its maintenance fees. A bit more than 2 years ago when I bought it the yearly Maintence fees were $399

The OP IMHO should not buy the $15,000 RCI Point deal and instead should study about timesharing for at least 3 months on websites like Tug, Timeshareforums and Timesharing Today.

To prove to yourself what a bad deal you are being offered do the following.

Go to ebay timeshares for sale. Then type in RCI Points. Then click on to the completed auction box and log in. There will be your proof that there are far better deals than what you were offered for:hysterical:  $15,000.

First of all, welcome to TUG! You are very smart to have come here and checked things out first before signing on the dotted line. Many of us here didn't find TUG until AFTER we had overpaid for our first timeshare. So congratulations on avoiding that very costly mistake, and as the other said, hang around these boards and learn the smart way of timesharing!
