LEGO changed its manufacturing sites & quality suffers?

We love LEGOs. Our kids love LEGOs. We just got the SpongeBob Rocket Ship and there was a defective part and a small chunk of plastic in one of the bags. This is a first for us. We've always had everything in working order before.

I scoured the box for contact information, and noticed that the manufacturing locations listed include Denmark, Hungary, China, Mexico and the Czech Republic. I started looking on other boxes that we have, and found that the new Indiana Jones boxes also list these places. Our Star Wars themed sets and Mosaics list Denmark and Austria.

Online, I was able to reorder parts, which will arrive within three weeks.

However, I'm concerned about quality control with the manufacturing being outsourced. We've always been so happy with LEGOs, being one of the few products with excellent products and quality control.

Anyone else a LEGO fan? I found this article from 2005 that said the Lego Group was going to outsource and probably shut down its Denmark factory.

This is interesting that you have noticed this too.

My boys just had to have the new Indiana Jones Lego so we bought the one with the motorcycle, and the temple one with some Target gift cards that they got for christmas. We got home and found that the temple one had the wrong head for Indy! It was Anakin Skywalkers head from another set completely. To us adults it probably seems like no big deal but to a 5 and 8 year old it was a terrible thing. Luckily Target let us return it and we opened a second set in the store which also had the wrong head. We ended up with a different set completely. Now you have me wondering about this too. Lego used to be so reliable and never a wrong part in all the years we've been buying. Too bad if they too are outsourcing and losing quality.
