Will a car rental gc nullify credit card coverage?
I have a car rental coming up in Orlando. I had intended to use a gift certificate to pay for this but then realized that it is my credit card that is providing the insurance. So, I'm wondering if I pay for half of it with the gift certificate and put half on my credit card, will I have insurance coverage?

Good question. Not to hijack your thread, but I have a similar situation, and you got me wondering. I have an upcoming rental in Orlando that I won through Priceline bidding (my first time using Priceline). I paid Priceline with a credit card that has collision coverage. Does this count? IOW, am I covered through my CC coverage on this? Thanks.

To the OP, I believe you can reserve the car with your CC, and then when you return the car (and if there have been no incidents during the rental) you can ask to use the GC instead of leaving it on the CC. If you were unfortunate enough to have an incident, then you'd just leave the car on the CC.
To the second poster, I'm not sure how it works in that case, but I believe the rental will have been paid with the CC, so my guess is you'd be fine. |

Good point! I was thinking that I would credit the gift certificate against the cost when I picked up the car. The drop off at MCO is usually at the lot and the car is checked in via a handheld computer. Can they process the gift certificate then? Maybe I'll have to check with the company.

My guess is that the entire cost of the rental must be on the CC. Read the little brochure that came with card or call the co.

I recently verified with AmEx that the entire rental must be charged for their coverage to apply. I'm guessing it's probably the same with other credit card companies.

Thanks much! I'll skip the gift certificate.
