Newbie FF question
If I buy 4 airline tickets, does my frequent flier account get the miles for all 4 tickets, or do I need to set up an account for each person in my family? When are the miles credited, when we fly or when I buy them?

You will need to set up an account for each person flying. Miles will be credited when you travel, though if they're running a promotion where you get miles for booking on-line you'll get the miles (for booking) on the spot. The bonus miles will be taken away if you cancel your tickets.

FF EQM's/RDM's assign to the ticketed traveler
That said, check for promos for signing up "friends". Often, if you sign up a friend and they give your FF # as a reference and fly within a certain timeframe of signup, the referer gets a RDM bonus. 5K per person is typical. Lastly, if you sign up for a FF vanity credit card, you'll get a signup bonus and RDM's for the ticket purchases for everyone, if you use the card. Play the game right and you can get a free round trip domestic ticket out of one transaction and flight ![]() Pat

So let's say I get 100,000 FF miles from a Marriott vacation package. Those points would go into my FF account. And if each member of my family had 5000 frequent flier miles in their accounts. If I wanted to order 4 airline tickets that cost 120,000 FF miles, can I pool everyone's points to get them? And if so, how do I do that?

I think Hawaiian Airlines lets you pool miles from family, but that's the only one I know about. I have an HA FF account, but I never really use it, so I'm not sure what the details are. -David |

Personally, I don't ever try and pool our miles. I get most of the FF miles (mostly from CC use) and buy most of the FF awards. Awards are only bought by my family using their miles when they have enough in their own accounts.

Depends on the airline, but you'll "transfer" the miles, usually at around a penny a mile plus an adminstrative fee. See your favorite airline's mileage program guide for details...
