I found this renter on Redweek who owns 16 units. WOW... Anyways, he had photos but their were all borrowed and at least half were mine. He claims that he visits yearly but obviously doesn't because he had none of his own photos to share. You tell alot were taken from brochures, etc... I know, I host my photos on a public site and love to share to help people but I'm not sure about helping other people's businesses???

I can see taking photos from the resort website, but taking someone's personal photos? I wouldn't do it without first asking if they mind.

I'd suggest you watermark your photos with your name or whatever, and make copyright logos obvious in the image. It won't stop the current people from using them (even though they can claim "public domain" because they were on a public website) but it may stop future pilferers from using them.

I had someone use a photo from one of my craigslist ads once. I was selling an item and they just used the exact same photo.

Not the same as your beautiful timeshare photos, I know. I guess I would be annoyed as well, but I'm not sure if there is much that can be done except the watermark-type suggestion in a previous post. Can your photos be password-protected so only people who have the password have access to your photo albums?

I see what you are saying, but in a way it's flattering, because it reflects on the high quality of your pictures. Unfortunately, if you put it out on the net, it's fair game...

Is the person pointing to your pictures (ie, using the images stored on your website) or have they saved them to somewhere else and then used them? If they are pointed to your website, then change the directory or slightly change the name of each file, then email them a cease and desist (after you are sure they have no images showing any more). Don't tell them what you did, just tell them that they shouldn't steal from you.

I once had someone steal whole pages of links and other content from my website. When I called him on it, he said I should be "flattered." I wasn't.

Would I be annoyed? Yes. Would I be so annoyed that I'd threaten legal action? No.

People "steal" graphics all the time. If you don't want your stuff to be stolen, then a) don't put it out there; or b) try to make it harder to steal by putting your name on them.

I think, I'm more annoyed because I don't think he is being truthful to his renters. He says that he visits every year. It is obvious that he doesn't. I've seen a lot of the pictures on other people's websites. Also, he is posting them on flickr which states in its community laws that you post what you took. You don't borrow. I can totally understand that people are gonna borrow my pictures but I just think he is tacky...

Why not report the theft to Flickr? You should be able to show them that they're your images, not his. Maybe they'll shut him down. ???

Dave

Why not ask him for a percentage? :D

I like that a free weekly rental... Wish I thought of that.

Actually, he was cool about it and removed the photos.
