St. Thomas back to US: Do we need to go through immigration&customs?
For our Nov trip to St. Thomas, we only have one hour layover in ORD on the way back. Do we need to go through immigration & customs? Will that be enough time for us to make the connection?

You go through the immigrations/customs process in St. Thomas when leaving the island.
Let me warn you it can be a very slow process, and the two hour recommendation for arrival at airport before flight is no joke. Especially if you're travelling on a Saturday. If you can print your boarding pass before getting to the airport, do so. If not, see if you can use a kiosk rather than go to the desk. The absolutely best advice I ever had was to get a skycap. Twenty dollars gets you through all the hassles without having to lug your luggage around. I'll never do it on my own again. Gerie |

Thanks for the tip! We'll use the skycap
![]() I guess one hour layover in ORD should be OK in this case... |

In all the times we've connected in Chicago and had to change planes, an hour has never been enough. If it's possible to re-schedule and get two hours, you'll be much happier in my opinion. Chicago gets weather with a capital W; sometimes the delays are weather related. Chicago has traffic with a capital T; sometimes the delays are traffic related. I've run for planes in Chicago more times than I can tell you----and I've never run for a plane in any other airport. I never schedule less than two hours for a Chicago connection.
