Rental car in Ireland

Does anyone know of a car rental company that is all inclusive in Ireland? Is there a US credit card that covers Ireland in the CDW? I thought I read that a Amex Plat card covers this in Ireland, but I am not sure.

I rented through a company called Argus Rentals a couple of years ago. The rate did include all insurance, though I did have to select that option. It really wasn't a whole lot more for the insurance option (certainly not the $30+ per day people might pay in this country). Some cards will cover the insurance, but many don't cover in Ireland.

We found the best rate with Thrifty when we flew into Dublin. Rather than an all inclusive rate, I just told them I wanted every piece of insurance that was offered. In the end it paid off for us as we blew out two tires one Sunday afternoon. If you don't know, it's not as easy to find someone to come get you and then someone willing to do the repair work.

Fortunately we had a world cell phone as there were no pay phones available to us. Thrifty sent out a truck that took us to a carriageway that replaced one of the two blown tires (didn't have two that size). We had to drive on the donut spare until the next day. Thrifty's insurace covered all costs and we weren't out one eurocent. In the end the total bill for just the tires ran $200 US dollars more than the entire cost of the rental. I have no idea what the cost of the truck to get us to the first carriageway ended up running.

Any time I'm out of the U.S. I bite the bullet and take out all the insurance available. I just don't want any issues with any long distance claims and forms to be filled out. It's much easier to just sign and go.

We were in Ireland last summer and got our rental car through Dan Dooley. I checked with out credit cards and found that American Express did not cover in Ireland but Capital One told me that they did. When we got there to pick up our car, we were told it was mandatoryto buy their insurance, that no credit card covered in Ireland so we had no choice. (I believe I found it through Expedia and it was about half of anyone elses.)
