We just returned from HHI. We flew NY to Savannah via US Airways. OMG, what a mess getting there. Anyway, they gave all of us free RT tickets. I have several questions regarding these tickets. If they were issued on 2/16/08 and are good for one year, does my return flight have to be within the one year if I book a RT ticket with them. So, can I use them the same week next year, leaving 2/14/09 and returning 2/21/09? Also, will they be considered FF type seats where we would have a good chance of getting bumped?
Secondly,Our friends who were flying with us were bumped out of their seats this past week on the way to HHI. They were flying with us. We all had confirmed seats from last August, and they were randomly picked to be bumped from their seats. Could it be because they were not members of US Airways FF program, or was it really random?

My sister was bumped several years ago this week - booked 10 months out and had confirmed seats and then a month before her seats were missing - and they got bumped.
They were told because they booked their tickets thru Travelocity or orbitz???? and not directly thru the airline caused them to lose their seats and the flight. Did you take the bump going down or coming home??? - because if it was coming home, your expiration date should be today - not the beginning of your trip. edit - Welcome HOME!

The bump was going down on 2/16. We all booked our flights on the US Air website.

I can't speak for all airlines, but I took a bump on a United flight last June. I had to book another flight before the year was up, but the flight could be up to a year out. I actually booked a flight for this coming Sept, on this past Christmas eve. I had to book that ticket at the airport and I was there to pick up my mother so it worked well for me. If it's a pain to get to an airport, it may be more troublesome for you.
The agent told me that on weeks like Spring break when a lot of people travel, she has some "regular" customers who start with the first flight and take bumps all day long, thereby getting free travel for the coming year. I guess that works if you don't mind sitting at the airport all day. Good luck. Sue |
