I was wondering if this resort is away from the crowded Honolulu area, and if it is a nice place to stay, specifically an efficiency unit is what I am considering for a family member who is attending a wedding on Oahu.

Any info you have, please share!

There are two resorts out there, Hawaiian Princess on the beach and Makaha Golf Resort. Both resorts are secluded and are in an area where there are more local residence than tourist. Both are older resorts. Both are at least 45 minutes to Honolulu. We really like this area but we prefers other Oahu areas for accomodations. One or two nights with some golf or shore fishing is enough. The sunsets are spectacular here.

My wife says you can priceline the Makaha Golf Resort @ $65.00 - $70.00 a night for a motel type unit. This resort is a short drive to the beach and if you do drive to the beach you might as well go to Yokohama Bay at the end of the road for sunset.

We are at the Makaha Golf Resort right now. Yes, it is "away from the crowded Honolulu area." The resort grounds are lovely and the golf course is in great shape. The common areas appear to be receiving (much needed) rennovation but the (hotel) room is ... umm ... still waiting.

One reviewer said the resort reminded them of "old Hawaii" -- I'd agree. Their is a certain charm to the grounds, buildings and common areas. Lots of potential ... I'd love to revisit after the refurb is complete.

BTW- we traded into an "efficiency" unit through II. The resulting room is really a hotel unit with a coffee pot and mini fridge. The room does receive limited daily housekeeping (similar to DVC's trash and towel service).
