Love Hawaiian Airlines
We just returned from Hawaii flying Hawaiian Sacramento-Kona. We were supposed to leave at 8:30am, but an accident with a luggage bin during loading caused a major dent in a pressurized part of the engine just before boarding. The pilot deplaned, came on the loudspeaker and explained the trouble. The flight was canceled until 9:45pm.
Hawaiian put up connecting passengers in local hotels, distributed food vouchers, etc. with no hassles. Fortunately, we live only 15 minutes from the airport so we called a neighbor to pick us up and went home for the day. When we returned, Hawaiin employees were handing out $300 future air travel vouchers already labeled with passenger names.
Arriving in Honolulu, connecting passengers were put up in hotels until the next day's connecting flight reservations could be made. There was a long line, but no one had to beg for a room.
I'm impressed with Hawaiian taking responsibility for their flying clients!
P.S. Hawaiian still provides in-flight meals. My aunt and cousin flying United from Boise, ID, had to purchase their "boxed" meal. Good thing they flew when they did. United is going to start charging $25 for a second checked bag.
