NYC recommendations for a show for young men?

A friend of mine is going to New York, her, hubby and her two sons, one about 19 and one about 14. She'd like to do a Broadway show but has no idea what might appeal to her sons.

Any suggestions? They're too old for Lion King, etc., I think. I thought maybe Spamalot - some humour to it which might appeal to them.

Although I haven't seen Spamalot yet, that seems to appeal to that age group. It is supposed to be fantastic. Another idea would be Blueman Group off Broadway. That was a really fun show.

Sorry to sound dense, but I'm assuming off Broadway is still in that same area? My friends are not keen on travelling around that much - they only have two days in NYC and are hoping to makek the most of it.

Off Broadway actually refers to the size of the theater. Blueman Group is at the Astor theater which is downtown.

Wink Have a great time!!

I understand that Spamalot is great. I have not seen that one. My wife and I saw "My Mother's Italian, My father's Jewish, and I' in therapy". It is a riot. Do yourself a favor and sign up as a member on the Playbill.com website. You will find all kinds of show specials and dinner specials as well. When you get to the city check out the 1/2 price ticket booth at Times Square. You can save substantially the day of the show.

My sister was in NYC in Nov. and got tickets to see Spamalot at the 1/2 price ticket outlet.

I don't know about Blue Man Group ticket availablility, but I do think that the youngsters would enjoy it. In Boston, BMG is always available for 1/2 price at Bostix so maybe you can get the same deal in NYC.

Avenue Q is another good choice for that age group, as is Rent. Rent is closing in June, so this is the last chance for anyone who hasn't seen it.

They would probably love the contemporary music in Spring Awakening, too. I didn't like the story line, but I am in the small minority, it swept the Tony awards.

another option is the 1/2 price tks booth at South Street Seaport (take the boys there--this is worth the trip to southern Manhatten). That booth often has way less lines and better ticket availability for shows. They are the same "TKS" thing---just different locations. For kids that age I would also go to the Intrepid (Sea/Air/Space Museum), obviously the 102 floor of Empire State Bldg, and the Museum of Natural History--kids love that (so do I). Statue of Liberty is OK if you want the boat ride. I first saw it when I was 10 and I remember being most impressed with the little iron spiral stairway going all the way up (can't go in the torch anymore). I thought (still think) the UN is BORING. I'd rather see the dinosaur bones any day.
