Question When to purchase airline ticket to Europe

We are traveling to the central Europe in August. When is the best time to get the best airfare (45 days in advance?)? Does the fare go up or down after March 30?

Thanks!

First welcome to TUg. Let me suggest you invest in your travel future by joining Tug for the whopping fee of $10 and you will reap the beneifits again and again. I say this and i have no affiliation except that I am a member.

As to your question. Can yoiu buy your ticket yesterday? Realize that planes use fuel. Not exactly the same fuel you use in your car but certainly fuel made from oil nevertheless. The price of a gallon of gas last year averaged $2.37 per gallon on this day a year ago. What gas station wouldn't be swamped today at that price? The latest estimate is that gas will be %4.00 a gallon by the summer (nationwide). Now the next question is: Who do you think is going to pay these enormous fuel increases? Are the airlines going to bite the bullet and keep their fares low so you can go to Europe? Think aqain. You will see higher ticket prices. In the case of Europe, the Euro is at an all time high to the dollar and will kieep going up as long as our economy operates the way it does. If you are traveling on a European carrier, consider the price implications. BUY YOUR TICKET NOW! If the fare should go down, you can often refare with many of the airlines. BTW since you are traveling during peak season, also don't expect any major "sales". I admit they happen sometimes but not often. The sales happen in the off season or shoulder season more frequently so the airlines can have passengers to defray their fixed costs. In other words, have you ever bought a hot dog at a ballpark or Disney World?

The first question is how much do you care about ff miles, which are probably worth about $200 on a trip across the pond? If you don't, you may want to look at some of the trans-Atlantic low cost carriers and connect in Europe to a European low cost carrier once you get to Europe, or if you have a lot of luggage (a problem with low intra-Europe LCC's), take a train from the European gateway.

There are links to a number of such airlines on the Airlines links at www.timeshareforums.com/links/index.php

You might try someone like Zoom or Icelandair, or one of the others listed.
