Delta FF mile transfer promotion
Until March 31st Delta is running a promotion where, if you transfer FF miles to another's account, Delta will increase it by 20% for SkyMiles members and by 30% for Medallion members. So, if you were to transfer 10,000 miles, the recipient would get 12K or 13K miles. When I fly it is almost always on my DH's FF miles. If he were to transfer those miles to my Delta account, we would have more miles to use.
My question is---is it harder to get seats together on the same flight by using two different accounts than if we just continued to book using only his account? He is a super-duper medallion member (or something like that ) whereas I am a mere nothing in their eyes. Also, it costs a penny per mile transfered plus 7.5% Federal Excise Tax per mile plus $30 per transaction. If I calculated correctly, it would cost over $350 to transfer 30K (the max that can be transfered in this promotion) into my account for an increase of miles of 9000 (30% of 30K). Does this even make sense? (Given that it takes 25K--and most often 50K--to get a free tix.) Paying $350 for 9000 miles doesn't seem cost effective. |

If you make reservations together for a flight, or series of flights, out of two seperate accounts, you just have to track them through two seperate reservation numbers as opposed to both flights being shown on one reservation.

Thanks for taking the time to reply, Oldman.
I am thinking the price of transfering miles is more than what they are worth. If I am wrong, please let me know. |
