We have been confirmed to the first floor of building 22 at Wyndham Smoky Mountains. Does anyone know if first floor is below parking level or at parking level? We have stayed in other buildings and know that in some of them, the first floor is below parking level. This building is across from the new Elkmont Activity Center which seems like a good location. I was just wondering about the view on the first floor. Also, do you think we might be able to pick up a wireless connection since we will be near the activity center?

I don't remember which building we were in last fall, (maybe 23?) but it was just up the hill from the new AC. I'm pretty sure that all the first floor units in most of those buildings are at least a half flight of steps lower than the parking lot. Plus, they are stacking the buildings in on the hillside so that the view we had from our 3rd floor room was parking lot on one side, building construction on the other. I'd advise you to not set your heart on having great views. Most likely it won't happen, but if it does then you'll be pleasantly surprised.

Same advice about the wireless. I wouldn't count on it. The parking/driving area through there is fairly wide and the AC is across all that from the units. Perhaps you will be able to receive, but better to not expect it and be happily surprised rather than expect it and be disappointed.

Looking at the resort map on their website, building 22 is the one with its balconies looking out from the hillside toward the original section of the resort. These are the balconies you see up on the right as you drive up the hill into this newer section. Given that, I'd guess that the first floor units are indeed a level below the parking lot. So if you'll have the 1BR standard lock-off side (which always face the parking lot side), there's no view to speak of. But if you'll have the 1BR Deluxe or larger, then I'd think your room would look out across the roads below to buildings 19 and maybe 17. Not sure if you'll be high enough to see the Smokies beyond or not. Take a look at the resort map and see what I mean. Enjoy your stay - we love that place!!! :)

It sounds like we will have some sort of view. I've been there before but I didn't stay on the first level so I didn't think about the views from there. I have 4 2 bedroom condos (the whole first floor) reserved for all of my in-laws. Heaven help me if we're in a "basement" of sorts. I'll be in big time trouble!! Thanks for your input. We loved the place, too. That's why we decided the whole family should enjoy it so I certainly don't want them to be disappointed.

Have you considered calling the resort and seeing if you can switch your entire first floor for the entire 2nd floor? Probably the same number of steps, maybe less even, and almost assuredly better views. I don't think the inside of the units will "feel" like basement rooms, but when you look out the window, it's liable to look like them.
