You can buy 2 volunteer resorts and upgrade 1 unit -> in the process of upgrading, you can requalify the 2nd unit. The total cost is the price of the developer unit minus the credit they give you for your upgrade. For me, it is $11500 developer purchase. I got 2 units into SVN.

Your post above seems to be an extension of another thread. Not having the advantage of knowing what went before it I have a question.

What do you mean by "Upgade 1 unit" and how does that fit into a normal requal process?

Upgrade ie: 1 bedroom to 2 bedroom, gold season to platinum.

I couldn't really follow what is being stated here - could you be more specific?

Here is an example: 2 resale units.
1. Broadway plantation 2 bedroom gold season
1. Mission HIlls
--> upgrade broadway plantation to platinum season -> in the process of upgrading, you can requalify Mission Hills.
You turn in your gold season 2 bedroom and get money credit to the new purchase. The developer unit sell for $26K, your unit is credit at $13K (original purchase price), you pay balance. --> both units will be in SVN.

There are many business rules. Broadway Plantation - in order to do a upgrade, it different in the price is at least 10K... Other property different rules.

So are you saying if someone owns a 1Bdr and wants to upgrade, they trade in their old unit to the developer and pay an upgrade fee to the developer for the 2Bdr?

If so any historic cost data on upgrades?

And if this is what you are talking about does anyone have experience with SVO actually considering the upgrade as qualifying for requal another unit?

This post was being typed while you were preparing the answer to the above.

Does anyone esle have experience with upgrade purchases?

What if you bought your 1BR from a reseller? How do they know what the original cost was that they can give you "credit" for? Also, I thought you HAD to spend $20,000 to upgrade. So you are saying the "credit" you get for your "trade in" counts towards the $20,000?

Just curious.

You get "credit" for your trade in. You can check county website to see how much $ it was originally brought for or ask the seller.

If I have 2 WMH resale, 1 gold and 1 platinum, I can upgrade the gold WMH to platinum and requal the platinum? Who should I contact in Starwood?

Unfortunately, WMH platinum is sold out, so you would not be able to upgrade the gold. Maybe you could ask them about upgrading your WMH Gold to the new Desert Willow Platinum, though that would cost a lot.

Myip, You did this a while ago correct? Do you know if this play is still available ?
-- Just did it this week. I wasn't going to become 5* but I can't resists the offer. SPG Platinum for life is now at the limit of 2000. They still honoring it but may be pull out soon.

Won't hurt to call starwood to check inventory on WMH. Some inventory may come back. You are not allowed to upgrade to Desert Willow with WMH

that is so cool. congratulations.sio you bought sbp resale gold and you upgraded it and requalified anther and both were brought into the system, all for under $15000, that's quite clever.so you basically had enough staroptions in place (with the upgrade and requal) so you would be 5*.good for you,i am impressed.

- pretty much except I upgrade SBP platinum unit to the new phrase Palemetto.
- Final deal is : total staroptions 225,500 and total cost $19,412 (including resale & developer units) - requalify Lakeside Terrace.

-- for anyone already have 2 resale units, you may want to do this now. STARWOOD changes rules all the time.

so there are now 2000 plat for life? did they say how many more they are going to have?

Just FYI, I recently saw a Starwood training presentation that showed the numbers for each SPG level. There were on the order of 8.5 million SPG members, with somewhere between 67,000 and 68,000 SPG platinums. Platinums were around 0.8% of all SPG members.

2,000 memberships given out by SVO is actually close to 3% of all platinums so if Starwood values the exclusivity of this SPG level they'll probably stop giving out the lifetime memberships very soon (assuming the salesman was anywhere close to correct).

Congratulations Maria.....

However, 225,000 StarOptions is not 5*ELITE.
What are you going to do to get the remaining 334,000 StarOptions?

Also, if SVO has already reached 2000 SPG Platinum for Life, do you have it in writing that you will get this benefit?

I already have the remaining staroptions from last year. I was so upset with Starwood last year that I didn't want invest any more $ into Starwood until now. Actually, I SOLD some of my starwood resorts except the last 2 that I like to use. I couldn't resist the current deal.

- As for 2000 SPG Platinum for Life, I was told that they will NOT revoke once it is given. Do you have something written that you get this for life? I don't see it in any of the doc. How do you knowthat your SPG Platinum will not be revoke from you?

I wonder if they would "upgrade" a WMH for the new Desert Willow. It's unlikely that owners at one place would want to buy right down the street so this may be a good deal for them (and owners of WMH).

maria said you can't upgrade a WMH to a desert willow. that would be great but they might end up with an empty resort . people always like a new resort.

Sorry, you are right. Saw the answer above. So there has to be a difference of $10,000 in price. But many SBP were the "old" ones taken over from Embassy. What type of credit would Starwood give you for that, I wonder?

It sounds like the active selling resorts would have the potential to "upgrade" only. There is still inventory at WKORV, WKV, SMV, SVV and SBP. Any others that I missed?

:cheer: Congrats by the way! This was a great plan. Almost makes buying from the Developer bearable financially. Katherine
