Loreley Resort in Helen Georgia for Memorial Weekend
Hello All
Any opinions or suggestions or comments about Loreley Resort in Helen Georgia over the Memorial Weekend. We will only use it for Saturday, Sunday, Monday and part of Tuesday. We have a week that is about to expire that we need to use. We wanted somewhere closer to home in the Florida Panhandle (3 -4 hour drive) but could not locate anything. Helen is about a 7 hour drive, so we will get their Saturday afternoon, and leave sometime on Tuesday morning. Thanks Joe Last edited by xnavyss : April 22, 2008 at 08:17 AM. |

I've never stayed in the resort because we have a favorite hotel in Helen. Too bad you're going this year because typically the end of Memorial Day week is the hot air balloon race. This year it slipped a week because of the way the calendar fell.
We have been that weekend every year but one for 22 years. It's a fun little town. The kids enjoyed tubing down the river when they were younger. Lots of adults like it also. I think DH tried it once and got too many hiney bruises. There are some great areas for hiking. Be sure and go up to Anna Ruby Falls. If there are kids on the trip (and maybe even if there are not) be sure to go over to Cleveland to Babyland General. It's the home of the original Cabbage Patch Doll. It has to be seen. Not sure how it will be on a holiday weekend, but typically Helen is pretty quiet through the week and only busy on the weekend. Many of the restaurants close early on weeknights. We got stranded one year with no food, so always come prepared. The nearest big grocery is Ingles on the way to Cleveland, but Bettys is pretty unique. It's a country store type and worth a visit. If you go up the mountain north of town, there is a wonderful restaurant called the Deer Lodge. Huge portions and interesting decorations. Check their hours since they are limited and it's a bit of a drive. Enjoy. Sheila |

How far is Helen from Atlanta? Is that the Bavarian town I have heard about?

It seems to be about 2 hours from Atlanta and yes the town has a German appeal.
