Any news on construction at HHV?

My sisters will be staying at the HHV in June. They will be in the Lagoon Tower in two 2-bedrooms (using 14,000 HGVC points) and one studio (rental). Does anyone have any updates on the construction going on there? She called the resort and was told that construction is every day, 8am-5pm and that it is very noisy. She was told that her units would face the construction.

Does anyone know if the pools are open and how noisy/disruptive the construction might be in late June?

Thanks for any updates!

We were last there on March 16. The new pools were far from done. There was really only a lot of noise on one day, and then only for a couple of hours. We were on the 22nd floor directly above where they were working on tying the Lagoon Tower into the new entryway. It felt and sounded like a jackhammer was in the living room! We've been to HHV several times since the construction started, and this is the first time it has been bothersome. However, I would not let this keep me from going back - in fact, we are due back in late June.

So you were there just last month?

Thanks for the update. Are the regular pools and everything else open...just not the new pools?

I guess you know the Lagoon Tower pool has not been open for a while. All other pools are open and ok. BTW, the lagoon is open and beautiful! Search my posts to see a picture, if you haven't already seen it.

The pool down by the beach is the place to be and it is far from the noise. The HHV is the best place to stay and a lot better than any other TS in Waikiki. The noise starts like clock work at 8 and stops at 5. So, if they are the kind that must sleep in, or take a nap during mid day, than they might have a problem. Trying staying at most hotels in Waikiki and there is noise 24 - 7.

Thanks! I looked through some of your posts and couldn't find a picture yet. I'll keep looking!

I was at HHV this past weekend. We stayed in the hotel overlooking the lagoon and could see the construction. Fortunately, work stopped at 5 on Friday.

The area where the Lagoon Tower pool is going to go is faaar from finished. There was still plenty of earthmoving equipment being used. Sitting on a low floor lanai directly facing it would be unpleasant.

The rest of the resort's pools and facilities were operating as normal.

the best pool by far is right on the beach. it is called the Pacific Ocean. Sorry, but I've never understood why people fly thousands of miles to one of the most beautiful beaches around, and then spend their day at the pool. GO TO THE BEACH, and enjoy getting sand in your towel, dipping your feet in the blue Pacific, lying under your umbrella if thats your thing.

ps - those rare times we take a short break from the beach, we like the Tapa tower pool, which is smaller, but much quieter and far far from any noise at the lagoon tower.

My sentiment too, pacman. :D The water is clear and most people find it warm enough too. I normally use a wetsuit when we are there but it also stops me from burning. :)

Denise, I looked for the picture last night of that pool and I believe this is it.

I agree 110%

We just got back from HGVC Waikoloa and we had access to the pool at the Hilton Hotel. We never used it once. But everyday we swam at either Hapuna, Mauna Lani, Spencers Beach, A Bay or a beach Kona Town.

I know some folks are leery of swimming in the ocean or just not comfortable in doing so, so I guess that's what the pools are for. Here in SoCal it's easy to find a year round outdoor pool to swim in....but the ocean is too cold at least for me to swim in....Not so the ocean waters around Hawaii.

About the new pool area at the Grand Waikikian, I think I read that their pool/water park would only be for guests of that tower and not the Lagoon or Kalia Tower. I may be wrong, but I remember something about that.

Yes, we love the beach the most, too :whoopie: . I think since they will have four 18-year-old high school grads and two 15-year-olds, they want to have a lot of variety for them, so plenty of choices would be good. Their main concerns are any closures and excessive noise.

Thanks, Emmy :hi: !

Isn't it weird how you guys posted that link within one minute of each other?!

According to Hilton's Lagoon update,

http://www.hiltonhawaiianvillage.com/rejuvenation/documents/HHV-LagoonOpenRelease.pdf

The lagoon and the beach received 35,000 tons of new sand. Have anyone verified that? The Hilton's sand were always a bit coarse. Also, the article implied that there's going to be a new beach activities kiosk at the lagoon. I wonder if that's only for timeshare use only!

I don't know if the sand is different, but I thought it felt fine to walk on last month. The kiosk, while beside the lagoon, is next to the Rainbow Tower, and available to everyone.

Even the sand on the Waikiki beach is rough, since none of it is really natural. It's all there because of "replenishment".

I found the sand on the HHV lagoon away from the activities area to be very similar in consistency to the concrete walkways. I had to look closely to see if it was sand or concrete.

Exactly (coarse sand). Although there are no natural sand in Waikiki, the sand toward the main strip are much finer. Since Hilton is "replenishing" the beach, I hope they filled it with finer sand.
