Calling card to use to England and Germany

I'm looking for a calling card to use in calling friends in England and Germany. Right now we have Vonage which gives us free calling to England and at .02/minute to Germany.

We're thinking about switching our phone to Verizon to get better reates on internet and cable.

The problem with calling cards is that some charge a connection fee, some a maintenance fee and have an expiration date.

I'm not looking for the cheapest cost per minute but one with a long track record no connection or maintenance fees and no expiration date.

Why not keep Vonage?

You can still use vonage for the calls to UK and Germany as well as other long distance, and use your land line for local and to get the cheaper rates on other things. I have a co-worker who does this and is happy with the arrangement.

Take a look at callingmart.com.

Look carefully at fees, maint charges, min call times, etc.

Also note that when using a calling card to call overseas, rates to cell phones are usually higher than rates to land lines. The rates should be noted in the rate tables for each card.

I forgot to mention the Verizon will be a VOIP type connection as is Vonage.

I guess I don't understand why you need a calling card in that case? What are their rates for calls to Germany and the UK?

There's cheaper VOIP providers than Vonage, etc out there, and some of them include international calls to about 30 major countries.

broadvoice.com is the VOIP company I was thinking about. It's $19.95 per month, including 19 countries. Germany and the UK are on the list of 19 countries.

Verizon has just come out in our area with a bundle of services. Internet, cable and phone are 103 a month. To get the bundle rate the phone service is required. If it wasn't required I would stay with Vonage as it has worked well and the free overseas calling.

Currently we have internet and cable from Comcast and they alone cost more than the 103. Add in the Vonage and the total is over 130. Switching to the Verizon bundle will save us over 25 a month and get better internet service and more stations that I won't watch.

However, if I can find a calling card service, I can switch to Verizon and even with the calling card costs we will save and get better service.

I've used Pushline for a couple years without issue. Use the online tool to select the card that meets your requirements.

That sounds like FIOS. In that case, I believe you will not have VOIP telephone service. Sure, use a calling card in that case.

Lots of Comcast customers are switching to FIOS. You're lucky it's an option for you.

Yes, the verizon offer for the internet connection is FIOS. I didn't realize that the phone service would be land line and not VOIP.
