We secured a pretty good price for a minivan, after much searching and effort so I wanted to share it.

Alamo has an offer that's good through May '08, for a weekly rental of a minivan for $169/week base rate, plus fees. This is generally good nationwide though I'm not sure if metro New York locations are blocked or not, as they sometimes are.

On the Alamo website, use ID# ORLESS and Rate/Product Code QVW.

Some other specials, like prepaying for 10% off or using Priceline, may negate the free second driver and other benefits usually received with their car rentals, so they're not as good. After adding in all the CA fees, our 2 weeks are costing us $424.98 total. This was about $100 less than the best price I could find anywhere else, through the big companies' websites and several good travel search engines. We're pleased.

We try to avoid Alamo as we have had horrible luck with the condition of their vehicles the last couple times we tried them. Thrifty has a similar rate ($177 per week) for Minivans paid for with an American Express card. http://www.thrifty.com/specials/AX07.aspx
