United Free Flight Voucher

I received a free flight voucher for an overbooked flight on United. The voucher says "Ticket by:" May [ ], 2009. Does this mean I can use the voucher for travel in Summer 2009 (after May 2009), as long as I book the flight and get ticketed by May 2009? Or, do I need to travel by May 2009?Thanks, Pointhound

Usually, the ticket by date is when you have to make the reservations. Travel is also usually not limited in time, or sometimes one year from the booking date. I had some old Delta miles expiring by the end of the year and made a reservation before then. Delta also allowed a change to the original reservation.

With all the turmoil in the business this may have changed so check with United Mileage Plus desk or reservations.

Cheers

I received a free flight voucher on United by accepting a voluntary bump in June 2007. I booked a flight with that voucher in December 2007 for a flight in Sept 2008. So yes, you need to book your flight by that date, but you can fly up to a year after the date on which you make your reservation. Please note that I had to go to the airport to book the flight, I was not able to do that online.
