This would have been a really good story for mystarcentral.com ("MSC"). But, we had to hear about it from the cold, hard, mean media streets.

FWIW, MSC is currently running a "news" story titled "Make Valentine's Day More Memorable." Basically, it plugs an online specialty gift company and includes this timely quote "est of all, you'll receive 10 percent off when you purchase an experiential gift from Cloud 9 Living now through February 14, 2008 using rate code SVOVAL." So, I can see why there isn't any space to post this gnome thing on MSC now.

On the plus side, we can add a new SVO VP sighting -- Paul Nelson, Senior Vice President, partner marketing -- to the pile.

Also, I had no idea that SVO had an official "corporate director of fun." It would seem to me that part of that job would at least involve letting owners know that you existed.

P.S. Who wants to bet that the gnome is hiding somewhere in the timeshare sales office or maybe at the "concierge" (aka timeshare pitch sign-up) desk? I'm pretty sure he won't be hiding in any ovens at WKORV-N, WKV, WLR or WPORV, or in the lazy river at WKORV-N, or at the swim-up bar at WPROV . . . ..

Sooo . . . . ..

2008 is almost over and I was just wondering if anyone found the "Roaming Gnome." If not, maybe we should send out a search party to look for him.

At WSJ

When we were at WSJ over Thanksgiving, the daily activity sheet had a contest to look throughout the property for "gnomes". It seemed aimed at kids and a lot, including my own, were participating. You picked up the sheet on Monday, and on Thursday turned in your answers and picked up a prize. Unfortunately, when we went to spin the prize wheel, we found the prizes were aimed at adults: 50% off SPG coupon, coupon for the on-site jewelry store, coupon for spa (which only admits adults), a coupon for a cabana rental, and the only true kid oriented prize: free smoothie or ice cream. We were the lucky winners of the SPG coupon. Needless to say, many of the kids were disappointed. My 7 year old wanted to write a letter of complaint.

So, yes the gnome is roaming, but it's not worth finding him.

Hey Nodge - sorry to dissapoint, but Paul Nelson is a VP of Travelocity not SVO.

How funny! We were at WKORV for 10 days this month, and one morning I pointed out to my wife that there was a Travelocity gnome sitting in the waterfall above the Koi pond. We laughed, since we watch the Amazing Race and the gnome shows up there each season too!!! I did not know there was any contest however.

We also noticed them during June at SVV - didn't find out till the last day, that there was a contest to find all during your stay and receive something at the end of your visit. Didn't get all the specifics, since we were leaving that day, :( but I think we counted 4 at least.

We saw them at SMV in September. I turned in the sheet but didn't get anything.
