Trying to convince my wife that Ocean watch will be a good vacation destination for our family (2 kids, both girls, aged 5 and 4). Looks like we can rent a 2 BR villa for around $2100 in the summer months, but I have heard that the area can present problems with eating out, due to really long waits at the area restaurants. If we like it, we might buy there, but I want to be sure first, and I am a little concerned about the crowds.

I would appreciate any advice on whether Ocean Watch is a good vacation destination during the busy season (most likely July or August) and what types of activities there are besides beach and pool. I think there is a large amusement park not too far.

Also, I'm looking for sites that rent and it appears redweek.com is the best one...but would appreciate any advice. Thanks!

We stayed at Ocean Watch (just purchased there) in March. There are so many restaurants - must be hundreds! - that I can't imagine you'd have any issue in the high season as long as you made reservations. Everything from high-end to fast food all over the place. Just be flexible and plan ahead for eating.

Since your girls are younger, I'd suggest going early or late summer when most of the schools are back in session.

For renting, redweek is fine; also check out timesharesonly.com - or look at the classified on this site. Once you own a Marriott, you can also join ownertrades.com for $10 and swap directly with other Marriott owners.

OW is a beautiful resort ... they were opening one of the new buildings the day we left. It is also a great place to own if you want to trade - they'll give you an AC in addition to depositing your week - so you get two weeks for one.

I love Myrtle Beach anytime of year...There is so much to do there and the place is growing by leaps and bounds. In the summer it is a busy place but there is an abundance of restaurants around to chose from, and we usually try to eat at the non-conventional times of the day when we go out with our 4 kids. Since we are in a Condo we usually do breakfast at the resort, then pack a picnic lunch if we are doing the beach. If we are eating out I try for an early dinner (2:45pm-5:00pm) with the kids...it seems to be busiest between 5pm-8pm so you may want to call the restaurants you want to go to and see when their busiest times are and if they take reservations.

The resort...I loved Ocean Walk,as I toured there and stayed on sight (my friend is a Marriott owner). Definately a wonderful place to stay and you will fall in love. Only reason I didn't purchase there is lack of funds...I own at Wyndam and its about as nice, but not as nice as Ocean Walk. You will probably end up buying there...its got tons of amenities and great pools and its on the beach....

The area ... There is so much in MB to do, here is a list of what we do with our kids ages 4, 7, 11, 13

- Family Kingdom Park
- Hard Rock Amusement Park (just opened)
- Nascar Speed Park
- Magi Quest (We absolutely love this place)
- Putt Putt Golf (you can't go to MB without playing Putt Putt)
- Myrtle Waves Water Park
- Catch a show
- Dolphin Cruises with Voyager

You will not be bored one bit here. We go every year at least once ... and I will be in MB this summer July 11th for 10 days...

Summer is always busy. I would call the M B chamber to send info to you. If you go out to eat say 5pm it is less busy. Plenty of shopping, shows, fishing, mini golf, golf, Brook green Gardens, yes there is hard rock park now. You can always cook in or grill out at the resort grills. you could drive into N C. Wilmington is about 1and 3/4 hours away. you could also go to Calabash N C. Old fishing village. It has the largest Christmas shop we have seen. There is also Silver Coast Winery just above Calabash. It will be hot that time of year. Enjoy.
