We are not flying until November. I know this is common practise with airlines, that is to change the flight times.
In our case, they have changed the flight out of Mazatlan to LAX. We now have a 4 hour layover in LAX until our flight home to YVR. Unfortunatley, this means our kids will have to entertain a 9 month old during that time. Is it still possible for the airline to make another change before November? I would like to hold on to the belief that it still may happen..... Thanks, I've not experienced this before and I know there are many out in Tug-land who have. Diane

Our Alaska Airline tickets have been changed a few times but not so much that we had an extra 4 hours at an airport.

The simple answer is changes are very possible. If you don't like the situation, call Alaska and explain the problem you have with the changes. They MAY accommodate you with a rerouting or more convenient schedule.
I guess since I have "elite" status, any time a schedule change made things less desirable, the airline has changed my schedule for the better. That said, most changes have only been a few minutes or so but when there is a significant difference in connections or arrival, they have helped me out. Give them a call, it can't hurt. Cheers |

Whenever Alaska Airlines has changed my flights, it was usually due to a plane being altered on the route. The last time was for my upcoming LV trip, when they took all their MD-80s off their Seattle-Las Vegas runs. Now it's all 737's. Ticked me off, since it went from 3 and 2 seating to 3 and 3. I hate a middle seat, and want to sit with my traveling partner. Lousy choices... I'm hoping for an upgrade to 1st Class.
Can they do it again? Yep. They hold the power. It's unlikely they'll change it back to what it was before. Dave

Its also possible that they may cancel one of your flights at the last minute and put you on another one (oh, joy!). All you can do for now, as others suggested, is call the airline or go online to its website to see if a more convenient routing is available (at the moment) and ask them to rebook you for that one. We usually book our flights at the earliest time possible, about 11 months out. I can't remember a time when we haven't had some change, either flight # or slight time difference.
Three months ago we had the same situation as you described and also ended up with a 4 hour lay over at LAX on our flight from Mazatlan to San Francisco. That was a little long, but by the time we cleared customs and had dinner, it wasn't that bad. But, it was just the two of us without kids. My complaint on these flight changes is the seat assignments. On an American flight where we had a change, they re-assigned our seats so the 4 of us were about as far apart as possible and 2 in our party were young grandkids. At check in they did get 3 of us together so there was an adult with the kids.

Thanks everyone, I have a little hope now.
Yes Alaska has changed our flight times in the past but only by a few minutes. The problem is they only offer 2 flights out of Maz and they are only a short time apart. It might be possible to take the later flight (more minutes in Maz) but even the early flight leaves only 30 minutes to connect to our YVR flight which is virtually impossible. I will wait it out and then see what happens as its still a few months away....
