Road trip TX to KY

We are driving from the Dallas area to Cincinnati OH in June with my son for a competition, we are then spending two days at the Red River Gorge, KY to go climbing. I thought I would ask for ideas of other places to stop on our road trip as we have never driven through that part of the country before.
We love the out doors, and will have two kids with us 11 & 15.

It looks like you could route yourself thru Memphis to see Graceland and the Beale Street Entertainment District, and then thru Nashville for the Grand Ol' Opry, "The Hermitage" (Andrew Jackson's home) and Wild Horse Saloon. See: http://www.elvis.com/graceland/, www.thehermitage.com/ and www.wildhorsesaloon.com

Thank you for the ideas and the links, we will definatly do Graceland, and Beale Street. We are not big country music fans so I'm not sure about Nashville. "The Hermitage" looks interesting we will check that out.

Hot Springs Arkansas

The national and state parks around Hot Springs, Arkansas are a great place to day hike. And then you could relax your tired muscles in a "hot springs" bath in the historical district (also a national park).

I've thought about doing that for a weekend getaway in the past.
Thanks for jogging my memory.

How about Mammoth Cave, My Old Kentucky Home (Bardstown, near Louisville), and if the young folks like amusement parks, Six Flags Kentucky and Kings Island (near Cincinnati)?

Mammoth Cave (www.nps.gov/maca/) is cool, esp. the long cave walk with the underground cafeteria in the middle. Another fascinating Kentucky feature is the Shaker Village at Pleasant Hill, with lodging and fine dining, near Lexington. See www.shakervillageky.org/
