Question about RCI points expiring??

I would and could ask RCI this, but even if they answered, I would be unsure. I have far greater faith in this group....

two questions really, and I'll use an example.... If my brother in law transferred me points (which for him expire 12/31/2008) to my account, where my RCI points year ends 10/31/2008..... will these points still be good in Nov/Dec for me??? do points carry their own expiration dates??? and in either case if say points expire in DEC, must the vacation time reserved be in Dec, or can I use these points in Dec to reserve say a week 2 months later, like in February of the following year??

I recently contacted RCI regarding a similar situation.
The best way I can describe it is that the points will stay with the usage year.
Another member was going to transfer his points to me. But the points were from his 2006 usage year and were extended to his 2007 usage year, which ended in May 2008. Since my 2007 usage year already passed, the points could not be transferred.

In, your case, if your brother-in-law transferred his 2008 points, I’m guessing they would expire on Oct 31, 2008. Now if these are his 2008 points, you could extend them for one more year. If they were his 2007 points and were already extended, then you could not extend them again.

I believe the points have to be USED and travel completed during the usage year.

You should ultimately contact RCI anyway because they're the ones who will make the final decision anyway. Call a couple times and see if you get the same answer.
If you have your brother-in-law’s membership information (name and phone number), RCI will look at his account and tell you the status of the points.

Points Transfer from Use-Year to Use-Year

Based on your description, your brother transfered points from his 2008 Use-Year (1/1/2008 - 12-31-2008).

These will be transfered to your 2008 Use-Year (9/1/2008 - 10/31/2009). The transfered points will expire on 11/1/2009 unless you extend them another year for a fee.
