Mid NY TO VA Beach - Rt 95 or 84/81/64 ??

Looking for an alternative to the busy shore route this Summer through NJ and WDC along the Rt 95 corridor.

Has anyone tried the 84/81/64 route? Will it take hours longer (seven for us already) or will it save time due to missed traffic jams in NJ and WDC???

Appreciate anyone with experience!

Hello dwmantz,

We travel from the UConn area to the UVA area four or five times a year. We only use I 95 if there is a winter storm. For us, 84/81/64 is about 100 miles longer. However, the travel time is the same. The route is much easier and more scenic.

Our trip consistantly is under 9 hours and 600 miles. VA Beach is about 2 1/2 hours from us.

Happy travels,
Kathleen

We travel from Syracuse down Route 81 to 64. We find it a much easier route as long as there is good weather through the mountains. It takes us about 10 hours from Syracuse.
