AA increases miles needed for FF seats

Thanks Joe, I had seen that the other day :ignore:  :wall: and was too annoyed to post.

So, how are Marriott's air-hotel travel packages changing (if at all) to match pace with these upcoming changes? For example, preview packages say it costs 200,000 MRPs for 1 week trip to a cat 6 hotel for two including air (like on AA). Since increase of FF goes from 70k (for two) now to 90k (for two, peak time), does Marriott keep the total package at 200k but give more air miles?

I saw an AA special on CNBC and they say it costs like $10 to fly a passenger on a miles seat (not sure the distance), so why the big increase in FF required (to say Hawaii) ?

Saying everyting but the height of hurricane season to the Caribbean is ''peak season'' is also interesting. It is probably a shock to the Tourism Ministries of many of those islands, who would be happy if it were true but would beg to differ as to the facts.

To many FF miles out there leading to a large liablity. It might only cost $10 to fly a FF passenger but, they're also losing the revenue potential on that seat.

Revenue management is supposed to handle this. There's sometime only a handful of FF seats released for a flight. Airlines have had decades to perfect their systems, I don't know why all of a sudden they now are claiming that the don't work (if they did work, they wouldn't have to change the mileage requirements and fees).

Also remember that FF miles are basically rebates for flying with an airline. If you fly cross country (~2500 miles), then after 5 round trips, you have enough miles (25k) for a US48 FF ticket. The only reason they might have gotten my business to begin with was on the promise that I'd be able to use my miles for an award later on. It's very unfair to label these 'free awards'. Anyone who has earned enough miles for an award I'm sure has put some work into the effort.

It's sort of like a pension program. Yeah, maybe it s*cks that companies today are spending so much money on retiree benefits (the US Gov't with SS included). But just as companies know that every worker now is a potential liability later on, airlines need to realize that every passenger flying now, earning FF miles, is going to be someone wanting to redeem an award later on. Not really fair that they want to renig on this later on.

This is the airlines' end, but what is Marriott going to do about it? For example, are they still going to claim 200,000 MRPs gets you to Hawaii on a cat 6 hotel for two? If so, they have to give more FF points with this air/hotel travel package. OR are they just going to raise costs of these air/hotel travel packages and use inflation as the reason? Many MVCI owners with TS's that trade in for fixed annual MRP's will not be happy to see a devaluation of their units from a MRP perspective
