Transfering Delta miles

Does anyone have experience with transfering Delta miles from one account to another? If so, how long did it take in your experience? I once purchased a small amount to keep an account active and it posted the next day. Transfering says it can take up to a week. Anyone done this lately?

transfer

The first question I would ask is why would you transfer miles in the first place? It costs $ to transfer miles and what was once to be a free ticket now costs money and not an insignificant amount. It is better to build up enough points to get a free ticket and then just get it in the other person's name. Now even this costs with Delta!

Because, I have two tickets on hold and my DH's account is 3000 miles short for his ticket. I need it done fast before the 2 day hold is up. It would cost 60.00....it's an international ticket so 60.00 is no big deal. I just don't want to lose the ticket..Award tickets with Delta are few and far between at decent miles levels...not to mention I'll have these tickets before the fuel surcharge and any other fee they dream up sets in.

I did this a few months ago, and it took 3-4 days for the points to show up in the other account.

Since transfering miles can take up to a week but purchasing them posts the next day it seems to me that purchasing is the way to go if time is of the essence.

Thanks, that was what I trying to decide. It's just about double to buy miles-but my last experience was that they posted almost immediately.

My advice is to buy them. You'd kick yourself if you lost these tickets because you wanted to save $60.

AFAIK, a week is a worst-case scenario. If you tried to do this close to a holiday weekend, I could see it, but that was not my experience.

A couple of weeks ago, I made a Delta FF reservation (GNV-LGA) for 8/22, put it on hold, and immediately transferred 2K points from my wife's account to cover my reservation. It only cost about $60, the points were posted to my account about 24 hours later and I was able to proceed with the reservation well-before the reservation expired.

While I could have travelled fairly cheaply from a regional airport (JAX), the FF ticket makes departure from a small local airport (GNV) affordable.
