Which Airport?
We have an exchange at Smuggler's Notch for September 27 and wonder which airports would be alternatives to Burlington? How far to drive from Montreal or Albany? Are there any suggestions? Thanks!

You could fly into Manchester NH:
http://www.flymanchester.com/ However, I'm not sure how long a drive it would be to the Resort. You could also fly into upstate NY, but again not sure of the drive. I have to go get a map to see if I can figure out the possibilities. Since that will take a while, I hope some one more knowing will see your post. |

Killington is 2 hrs from Albany and Smuggs is another 1 1/2 to 2 hrs from Killington. Maybe it wouldn't be that long if you went as the crow flies from Albany. I'm just taking a guess.

Most of the time, we use Manchester, NH. I can fly using Southwest and rates are cheaper. I have also found our rental car to be a little cheaper in Manchester too. I believe it takes us about 2 to 2 1/2 hours in the summer to get to smuggs. In the winter, it would be longer. Very easy drive once you get out of the airport. Mostly interstate.

airports/what about Bradley INternational outside of Hartford ?
I think Manchester is a good choice but fares might be higher...have you thought of Bradley AIrport in WIndsor locks , CT... outside of Hartford... you would then drive up rt.91 all the way to Smugs...guessing about 3.5 hours drive time.. ?

I wouldn't fly to Montreal, mainly because you'd be going through customs two times each way, also wouldn't there be some sort of "departure" tax on an international flight? Manchester could work well as could Boston, though that would be about an hour longer drive than it would be from MHT.

There are other things to consider.
You may find that driving a little extra is well worth it if you can cut down on lay-overs & changing planes. By flying into a closer airport you can sometimes save only a hour or two. IMHO, if that means a change of planes you'll likley find that your trip is now longer by flying to the nearer airport because of the added time changing planes. Also, flying into the bigger airports is almost alway cheaper. (Of course, since Southwest generally likes the smaller airports, flying SW may be an exception)
