Resorts: Morritt's Tortuga Grand Cayman Kona Coast II Hawaii
PA to Myrtle Beach Directions

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Travelling with wife, 3 year old, and 1 year old to Myrtle Beach for a week in September. We will be going down Sunday 9/14 and returning Sunday 9/21 and staying at the Marriott Ocean Watch.

1. What would be the best driving route from I 83 in Shrewsbury, Pa to Myrtle Beach? Also, since it is a Sunday, we don't have to worry about work rush hour, but where are the bottle necks on Sundays and what time should we leave?

I know 83S, 695W, 95S, 495W, 95S, but where do we get off 95 in NC/SC to get over to Myrtle Beach?

2. How long should the ride take?

3. If over 8 hours, we may stop and stay a night on the way. Any suggestions of a quaint place to spend a night on the way with something to do with the kids?

Thanks in advance!

You can go all the way down to SC before getting off of 95, but we take 95 to I-40 in east around Fayetteville NC. This takes you through Wilmington on all the way down the coast to Myrtle Beach. I like the ride a little better as you get closer to Myrtle Beach.

If you decide to stay a night anywhere along I-95, you can stay in Ashland, VA. Kings Dominion is an amusement park close by that they would like. If you don't want to do the amusement park, then you can drive a few more hours south to Rocky Mount, NC. That is where I live. They just built a new children's museum and planeterium here. http://www.ci.rocky-mount.nc.us/museum/

Have fun on your trip!

We live in the Baltimore area and it takes us 8.5 hours, with decent traffic around Washington, DC. If like us, you'll want to get there as soon as possible with 2 small kids:

Once in Lumberton, NC we take 74 East -> take the Chadbourn exit NC-410 & turn right towards town -> continue through town & farmland until the road ends in a T intersection -> turn right onto US-701 towards Tabor City -> you'll come to a choice of US-701 bypass or US-701 business in Tabor City. Bear to the left onto US-701 bypass (you'll see a Burger King) -> at the junction with SC-9, go underneath the bridge & turn left onto SC-9 towards Myrtle Beach -> SC-9 will take you directly to US-17 in North Myrtle Beach. If you're going more south to the heart of Myrtle Beach, take bypass SC-31 off of SC-9. There are several exits off the bypass. Check a map to see which one is best for your destination.
