Sunday is the easiest/cheapest night to get a hotel in the city on Priceline say the experts. I have seen some good properties go for around $120 for a Sunday night unless something big is going on.

The Marriott in Times Square is right in the theater district. Great hotel.

NYC options

thanks for the suggestions. I am reading about bidding on priceline and will try to get something that way for them. If they cannot get something reasonable that way, my husband and I may just give up some of our points and give them a freeby.

That option would be to use my priority points for the Crowne Plaza or my starwood points for the Sheraton. Crowne plaza wants 25,000 points and the Sheraton wants 12,000. Has anyone stayed at either of those hotels?

I did check out the Marriott. Not in the price range unless priceline comes through for them.

$194 + tax = $225 (parking not included)

The Belvedere Hotel exceeded our expectations, and it's a short walk to all Broadway theatres.

My sister uses hotels.com and she's had pretty good luck with them for NYC.

I stayed at the Crowne Plaza and it was fine; a friend has stayed at the Sheraton and said it was fine. Neither one is special so I would take the Sheraton at half the points. However, the Crowne Plaza is about a minute walk to the Gershwin, so would be very convenient since they're seeing Wicked.

Priceline sounds like the way to go, though.

Thanks for the info re: the Crowne Plaza and The Sheraton. The points of priority club vs. starwood points work differently. To get any hotel with priority points, you need a minimum of 15,000. Starwood points start with 2,000 points per hotel stay. They have more Categories than priority club. Therefore, with the Sheraton wanting 12,000 pts. and Crowne Plaza wanting 25,000 for equal quality hotels, I am not really sure which one is the better deal. If anyone out there would know,,, please let me know . Which would you give up??

TravelZoo has great prices at times. I think there's a special now at the Hilton Millenium in Times Square for $199 on selected dates.

How about the Courtyard by Marriott at 866 3rd Ave. Close to theatre district and we paid $268 per night last week.

Unless they really want to stay in the Times Square area, most hotels can hail a cab which will take them to the theater. I like Priceline the best. I seem to get the Hilton on 6th Ave. most of the time. The subway station is close by. Also, many of my friends have been able to make reservations very reasonably if they do it last minute- even in the Times Square district. Wicked is a great play- puts a different twist to Dorothy and the Wizard!

We have stayed at the Excelsior a few times. Real nice location west of the Park and easy ride to Theater. Nice neighborhood restaurants nearby as well!
