Resorts: Hilton Club, NYC, Ocean Beach Club, VA Beach
Hilton Head in December?

I'm considering going to Hilton Head for a week in early December. The possibilities are: Marriot's Barony Beach, Marriott's Grand Ocean, Marriott's Harbour Club, Marriott's SurfWatch, Disney's Hilton Head Island, Marriott's Harbour POint, Marriott's Monarch at Sea Pines, Marriott's Sunset Pointe @ Shelter Cove, Seawatch, and Marriott's Heritage Club. (Marriott seems to REALLY like Hilton Head!)

We prefer beachfront - and like good food.

Any thoughts are appreciated.

Resorts: Marriott's Manor Club Sequel Platinum, Marriott Grande Vista Platinum, Foxrun week 39
Grande Ocean would be my first choice hands down. It's ocean front, right near Coligny Circle and the gate to Sea Pines. You get a free pass to Sea Pines which is also nice.

Resorts: Marriott's Grande Ocean (3 weeks) & Barony Beach Club (2 weeks); TUG member since mid-90's
grande ocean

grande ocean is the finest oceanfront timeshare resort on the east coast, for many reasons. It's also closest to the best restaurants, altho hhi is small enough that it's still only a 10-12 minute drive to most any restaurant, wherever you're staying. ...there are over 200 restaurants on the island.

Second choice would be Barony, then Surfwatch.....in that order. Grande Ocean is far and away the best, tho. jme

Thumbs up

Grande Ocean is my choice on the island. There is only one draw back on going to the island in December "day's" are shorter. Enjoy your week on the
island.

Thanks for your replies. I also read the TUG reviews and it sounds like Grande Ocean is the place to go.

Resorts: Marriott Barony Beach & Marriott Harbour Point HHI Brewster Green Resort on Cape Cod
Piper

HHI has so many choices of where to dine that I have an ongoing list for our annual visits so we can try new places with each visit. Lots of info on Tug reviews.

We love Barony but GO is the queen of Marriotts on HHI. Central location-Pope Ave area has everything you'll need and Sea Pines Plantation has the prettiest bike paths on the island and is right near GO.

Nothing like being right on the beach! Enjoy!

We are owners at Grande Ocean and hands down prefer it over the other HHI Marriotts most of the year. However this year at Christmas we are planning to stay at Surfwatch because of their heated pool. The only heated pool at Grande Ocean is the small lap pool.

Piper,

My wife have vacationed on HHI during the first week of December for the past several years, including a couple of times at Grande Ocean. Last year was unseasonably warm - temps in the day were in the 70's and low 80's and in the 60's in the evening. Other years daytime temps were in the 60's and evening temps were in the low 50's to high 40's.

Great bike riding weather and the free bike pass for Sea Pines Plantation is a great benefit. While you're biking in Sea Pines Plantation visit the Stoney Baynard Plantation Ruins

The Hilton Head Choral Society sponsors the Christmas Tour of Homes - this year the 24th annual Christmas Tour of Homes will be on December 7th. We've done this tour several times (it's different every year) and enjoyed it. They're also doing "The Sounds of Christmas: Holiday Classics" at The First Presbyterian Church on December 5th at 8pm. For more info see
http://www.hiltonheadchoralsociety.org/schedule.asp

If the South Carolina Repertory Company is doing a production while you're there you can see a play. We've enjoyed several of their productions. Great small theater - they're located at 136 Beach City Road just past the airport.

See this previous Tug Thread for my recommendation of Nutcracker in Savannah - - scroll down to see it

Hilton Head Island won't be as crowded in December as other times and traffic won't be as congested. Plus the Christmas lights will be on display.

Enjoy your stay.

We own Christmas week at Monarch and enjoy it. It is older than the other ocean Marriotts and the units are smaller, but right for us since we have an ocean front unit. However it does not have an indoor pool. We have stayed at Grande Ocean and it is really nice. In fact we are staying there the week after via an exchange.
