NY area suggestions??

I am looking at the NY area for next summer. The problem is it seems that the Manhattan Club is impossible to get in to, and everything else looks to be a long way from Manhattan (not from the area, so I don't know anything about it). I guess I am looking for resort locations that would still allow us to go into the city at least two to three times in a week's stay. Atlantic City? Niagara Falls area? Canada? Any advice would be appreciated. I have two kids, 9 and 14 if that matters. Also, would like a really nice, safe, resort. Gold would be nice. Thanks in advance for the suggestions.

Hi there.
Hilton has time timeshare units on 6th Ave and a new timeshare building several blocks over on 57th, so you may be able to get in there, plus there is the Affinia properties (never stayed there though), so maybe you could trade into those.

In terms of the other locations, Atlantic City is mid-NJ and maybe a day trip but I wouldn't choose to do it. Niagra Falls and Canada are not drivable for day trips at all. What you might want to consider doing is renting someone's days or a week from here or on www.redweek.com. The Manhattan Club owners often have 2-4 days available sometimes, so if you don't want to commit to 7 days of rent, rent just a few nights and then piggy back that onto a trade you can get that is within a reasonable drive of NYC...just a thought. I've been ableto exchange into Manhattan Club and stay at the Hilton on business, but have also rented the Manhattan Club for about $150-200/night when regular suite hotels would be $400 and up.

Hope you have a great trip!

I am a Hilton Club owner. I don't think it is possible to trade into the Hilton. It might be possible to trade into the new property on 57th Street -- but I'm not sure.

I have stayed at the Affinia Manhattan. Although it's clearly an old building, it was a great deal for staying in Manhattan. We had a 2-bedroom apartment that had a full kitchen, a nice size living room, bathrooms with each bedroom PLUS a bathroom off of the living room. The beds were very nice (firm, nice linens) and, like the Hilton, they had Aveda toiletries. I don't know about trading to stay there, but the cost was very reasonable for the space provided.

North Jersey is your best bet geographically. A max of one-half hour into NYC, buses, and rail if you wish or by car. The problem is that there are no timeshares that I am aware of .

Perhaps you could book a week at an extended stay hotel like a marriott residence inn. Travelling from AC is possible but would probably be an unpleasant grind particularly during the week. Consider the suburbs of Jersey city, Hoboken, possibly even newark. You could stay as far south as Edison, New Brunswick, highland park, princeton, east windsor. They are all in Middlesex County. About an hour from there to NYC. The princeton area is a very nice area and there is a train station in princeton with communter trains running frequently to manhatten.

Basically, I am unaware of ANY resorts that will get you fairly close to manhatten. They don't exist. The NYC , NJ area( near NYC) is really not a resort area, therefore, not a timeshare area.

If you want a family timeshare, consider Shawnee on the Delaware. Shawnee is a family oriented resort with lots of activities. You can definitely visit NYC three times a week. It will take you 90 minutes to get into the cty. There is a bus trip weekly from the resort or you can take public buses to NYC.

Thanks, I am trading a 2 BR timeshare, so I definitely need a RCI resort. The hotel idea is a good one, but would not work for us. Keep them coming if anybody has any other ideas. I am on a waiting list for the Manhattan, but I don't expect that to come through. Just looking for other options. Anybody else have any??

Redweek also has exchange, and you can see there weeks and time avaiable, and they do have provisional weeks for the Manhattan club,If you want NYC the surrounding area will not cut it,
check tug wish list for exchange, they may not list your resort but you can always email and ask
