Just wanted to mention that TSA conviscated my canned turkey (liquid inside) and the Goober Jelly (peanut butter and jelly mixed together) because of the jelly (it's like a gel)......geez couldn't believe it! Both of these were sealed and had never been open. I was sooo mad! Anything else I should avoid. What do other TUGgers take that doesn't weigh a lot. Thanks.

The carry-on rules about liquids apply to all liquids, including food. There is a size limit - 3 oz. It's no different than taking over-size toiletries or cosmetics.

So I guess those who take frozen food are OK since it isn't liquid (yet). I just thought some "common sense by the TSA" ( quite the oxymoron) might have been practiced here. I really didn't think there was much liquid in a sealed
can of chunk turkey. The funny thing is there was no problem in the Indianapolis airport for either products. We had to spend the night in Chicago and go thru security again at O'Hare. That's where they conviscated our canned turkey and goober jelly

There is no exemption for the items you describe. doesn't matter that they are food and that they were sealed. I pack such stuff in my checked luggage. Yes, I still check luggage, and probably always will.

I actually don't want them to have a 'common sense' check as that could cause items to pass that really should not.

Yup, the canned turkey/chicken has to go in the checked bag.
And I would have guessed the peanut butter/jelly would not have made it either - sorry.

Dry tortellini (in the bag) - mushroom or 3 cheese - a can of shrimp
and a package of sauce in an envelope - that u add liquid to when u arrive.

I bring a package of Bear Creek chili mix and 'chicken in a foil pouch' or else the canned Costco chicken and success rice in a bag.

In a one gallon zip lock bag, I bring cold cuts and an assortment of cheeses and 3 or 4 frozen juice/milk boxes - I double bag this, wrap in a few of T-shirts.....it stays cool for 12+ hours.

I bring a 2ounce jar of mustard, S&P, coffee, cream of wheat, craisons, canned chicken, micro popcorn, 8 'wraps' (these go in the bag with my computer

).

This takes care of my breakfast/lunch/snacks - and 1-3 dinners and takes up very little space.

Just curious: Why don't you just buy these groceries when you get to the timeshare? Is it that you're going somewhere international and cannot get these items? I always just do my shopping when I get to my destination.

It's clearly spelled out in the TSA rules: Canned or jarred goods such as soup, sauces, peanut butter, fruits, vegetables and jellies - Yes - 3 oz. or smaller container.

I am sure that you would not be able to bring more then 3 oz. of a frozen liquid in your carry-on either.

what a huge thread! Saw how big it was and opted not to read it. Interesting that it was about cooking at one specific resort. Probably why I never opened it before - not a system we own!

LOL, it can pertain to most any resort....and Carolyn, some of my tips were based on checking a bag - sorry for the misinformation.

I had a little carton of yogurt confiscated. I had intended to eat it and forgot I had it. It just seemed kind of silly but then, a lot of things do. I recently read that TSA may allow liquids again next year.

Yes, it looks like that will go into effect most likely in January. Sure gives credence to what most frequent flyers and road warriors have complained about for a VERY LONG TIME - the >3 oz rule was not based in any sound logic or intelligence, only a knee-jerk reaction that lasted way longer than it ever should have.

The crazy thing is that most road warriors and frequent flyers have already learned to work around the existing rule, so the change in rules will not really have an impact on them!

For the PB&J replacement, get the Jif dip size peanut butter. They are 2 oz containers. I found it at Target, but I'm sure it's available in many grocery stores. For the jelly you can probably find the restaurant little packages somewhere. My DS's zip lock baggie had nothing but these in them when we went to Harborside (it's probably in that thread somewhere)! He's 9, so all he really uses is toothpase anyway -- something I had in my ziplock baggie.
