Airfare with Priceline
Has anyone used Priceline to "bid" on airfares? Are the discounts worth any of the possible inconveniences? Is it best to bid on short notice when airlines might be trying to fill up the last few seats or is it best to bid "early in the game"?
Any info or advise is appreciated. |

I bid once on PL for flights (and have bid another time on behalf of my Mom). In each instance the savings was over $100 per ticket. Sometimes you can make an "educated" guess asto what routing they'll put you on. When I bid for my Mom she was flying from Portland Maine to Louisville, I was pretty certain that they'd put her on Delta (and they did); I was also pretty certain that flights didn't land in Louisville too late in the evening, or depart too early in the morning.
All in all, PL can be good for flights, though I'd prefer to use them for cars and hotels and leave the airfare to something more definitive. |

My dd bid for a flight from Portland OR to Pgh, PA just recently for her husband that had to come home within a day or 2 for his gr. pa's funeral.
She tried several bids which PL refused, but offered her a reasonable fare...about 360.00 RT with taxes. That was about 1/2 of what the fares were going for. He had to leave both on the departure and the return at 6am with 1 layover. The return flight had a 4hr layover which was the only downfall. But still could not beat the price |
