best airline to get to Portugal from New England

Hi all, looking at all the connections and so forth from all the airlines.. so far Continental looks like the most direct from New England going to Newark and straight over to Lisbon... any others that I can view ?? Have looked at United, Delta, British Air but all have a connection in US and in Europe... thanks....

TAP also flies EWR to LIS. I've never flown them, so I don't know how good the service is.

This page on farecompare.com suggests that grupo Sata flies direct to lisbon from Boston, although obviously you didn't say where you are in New England.

http://www.farecompare.com/flights/L...OS/market.html

On their website, a flight for next week was around 750 USD, although I doubt your flying next week. Their website is www.sata.pt

Aer Lingus is trying to reinvent itself as an LCC, so you may get a good fare, too.

I flew TAP Air Portugal years ago when they had codeshares with DL and I mainly was flying DL. The service was decent then, in fact in some ways better than DL. But they may have gone downhill as much or more than DL has by now.

Good suggestion to avoid an airport that I have seen variously called ''the Heathrow hassle''. ''the hell that is Heathrow'', or simply ''Deathrow''. It is unfortunately that so many US-based airlines think they should fly there and abandon the far superior airport at Gatwick.

I'd check the Boston Sunday paper for consolidators and charters as this area has many of Portuguese desent and there are lots of offerings

many thanks... I am in western mass

Hi, will look into the suggestions... I am about 2 hours from Boston which would mean a drive or a ride out to Boston... usually I fly from Bradley International in Hartford/Windsor Locks as its more convenient ( but usually fares are a bit higher )... thanks.. I will start exploring... would like fewest connections like the rest of us !!!!!!!!!

Bradley may well have charters, too. Check the Hartford Sunday paper! When I flew to Paris as a kid I flew non-stop out of Bradley on a charter!

Thumbs up

We flew TAP (Air Portugal) last Feb. from EWR to Lisbon. The service was excellent and I would highly recommend them.
