Hi Gang,

Check out this thread regarding ARDA being investigated by the Feds for illegal donation collections on the order of $3 (Marriott) and $5 (SVO) from thousands of individuals.

Near as I can tell, ARDA is behind the recent legislation changes in Florida that allow HOA boards to do anything they want, including implementing massive special assessments without homeowner approval. Thanks for looking out for us ARDA!

Remember, when SVO sends us our annual maintenance fee notice, you can opt out of paying that $5 ARDA free simply by paying $5 less than what SVO says you owe. SVO's system will assume that the $5 shortfall is because you don't want to pay that fee, and still show that you have paid in full. (Not that SVO would tell you this or anything though)

FYI,

I have opted out of ARDA payments in the past but wanted to comment about SVO's generousity - actually collecting 66% more per victim, er excuse me, owner, than Marriott.

According to ARDA's web page (which if you just switched the "R" and "D" around, you'd find this organization that, unlike ARDA, is probably worthy of each of our "voluntarily" donations), ARDA boasts the following regarding the recent Florida law changes:

"Florida

ARDA-Florida worked throughout the session to modify or otherwise exempt the timeshare industry from condominium legislation, potentially harmful tax legislation, as well as various bills that would affect the operation of home owners associations.
"

Lookie who is in charge of the Florida ARDA. Ah well, I'm sure that someone on that distinquished list of "ARDA - Florida Board of Governors" was looking out for us owners when all of that ARDA-initiated legislation was enacted by the fully ARDA-schmoozed (at our expense no less) Florida legislature.
