Renting a car issues

Back in July I made a reservation with Hertz becuase I am a gold member and it is sure nice to show up all you have to do is locate your name on a list load your luggage and you are on your way.

Well this time it is involving a little more than that. As I said I made my reservation in July for a 7 passenger SUV and received an emial confirmation with a price. In the past the vehicle we picked up was the Expedition. My confirmation says it is an Explorer. I didn't know an Explorer would seat 7, so I called. They told me I reserved an Explorer and it was not a 7 passenger. I told them I know I reserved a 7 passenger, because that is what I need for my family. They told me they could reserve a bigger vehicle, but it would not be at that price. I told them I was not willing to pay any more and I want a 7 passenger vehicle . They told me there was nothing they could do at this time to call back when my trip was closer. I am going in January.

Has this happend to anyone else? What were your results?

The Explorer has a fold down third row and though tight, does seat seven.

AFAIK, Explorers have both 5- and 7-seat configurations, depending on the trim, so I would trust the rental company to know which variety they had.

This is similar to the problem I had when I reserved an intermediate and all they had left on the lot was a compact or minivan. At least the OP got a heads-up. If its a 5'er, make another reservation and then cancel the first.

Overall the Expedition is a larger vehicle, so it would seat seven more comfortably.
