Hi. I'm at the Marriott Grand Chateau this week, and this is the first Marriott I've been at which includes...no cleaning at all. Is this unique in the Marriott system, or are there other resorts which don't include any cleaning at all (not even a mid-week tidy)? I've been to a few other Marriott's and they all included a mid-week cleaning, so this came as a surprise.

On the flip side, the cleaning for a 1-bed is only $18 per day, which is among the most reasonable I've seen at any resort.

The resort itself is very nice, and I enjoy staying near the strip but not at a casino. I reserved a couple 1-beds from Interval on a Getaway (~$350/week) and have no complaints.

Once owned these: FirstFairway@Walden X 2; Lawai Beach; ManhattanClub; PuebloBonitoRose; 4 South Africa--now timeshare-free

Do they give you this option? Could you choose just one mid-week cleaning for $18?

Shadow Ridge is that way, too. I thought the tidy up was included, but it is only for rental guests. If you are an owner, are renting from an owner, or have exchanged through II, you must request a cleaning with 24 hours notice. You have a choice between a tidy up or a full cleaning here at Shadow Ridge. I don't know the rates for these. I imagine it is different at each resort.

Hope this helps!

Also, we have seen that most Marriott resorts will do a towel exchange upon request- replacing all towels/washcloths etc. with new ones - for no fee. We usually do this if we don't opt to pay for a cleaning during the week.

None of the Marriott's we own or have stayed at offer a mid-week cleaning. We actually prefer this as I'd just as soon not have anyone in our room. It's one of the things we prefer about Marriott.

Besides, who really needs to have their bed made up once during the week by someone else. I can wash my own towels (assuming there's a washer/dryer combo) and I know how to take the trash out if need be.

Cleaning at MGC

We stay at MGC at least once a year and have found that they offer a variety of cleaning options. Usually, these options are offered prior to check-in but can be completed at any time during a stay.

There is a free towel exchange every day but you have to request it. You can request a tidy clean. They exchange the towels, empty waste baskets, throw out newspapers etc. I believe the cost is about $17 per time. A full cleaning is available for around $40 per. It depends upon the size of the unit. We have been very satisfied with the service at MGC.

The other Marriotts TS where we have stayed offer a similar service. However, I have found that it varies in quality. I'm sure that Marriott works hard to establish a quality standard at all of their resorts but it doesn't always come out that way.

At MGV the service does not seem as good. The service at MML was acceptable. I hope that during this period of economic turmoil Marriott does not lower its' standard of maintenance because of falling prices, lower sales and owner complaints about higher annual fees.

None of my resorts offer any additional cleaning for free. You can arrange for what ever you would like for a fee. The only one I have stayed at in the States that had daily service included was Boston.

Phuket, Thailand has daily complete housekeeping including dishes, bed making, towels-everything you would expect in a regular hotel room.

This is for owner occupancy, exchange, or daily reservations through Marriott.com.

Its awesome!

They offered towels and sheets at no charge.

Wow. This is the type of sentiment that doesn't exist over on the Starwood forum - I certainly don't require a cleaning, but expect it as a standard amenity. And, you can always tell the hotel/resort not to clean your room...

As Marriott is one of the expensive timeshare options around, I'm just surprised a mid-week cleaning isn't standard policy - it is at Starwood.

However, in fairness I must admit that the $18 fee for a cleaning seems much less than Starwood for a similar sized unit (though the fee does change based on resort).

Actually, I prefer not to have a cleaning as part of staying there. I prefer to order what I want when I want it and not have it in my maintenance fees. The HHI resorts have reasonable MF in comparison to other areas. If these service were included the owners would all have to share in the cost.

Some of us are more than willing to do the daily tidy's ourselves and fore-go the cost. When we order additional cleanings it is always a full unit clean and generally only done when we have a change mid week in our guests staying with us. Not having it included allows the owners not to pay for extra cleanings for people trading in and gives more control of the costs....

I guess.... to each his own ...

By having to order it ala carte and pay for what you want, the rest of the owners don't have to pay for what they don't use. Sure I could request not to have the mid-week cleaning if they offered it but, then I'd still be paying for it as part of my MF. The way Marriott handles it only those that use the service pay for the service.

As for how expensive Marriott is and what they do or don't provide, that's another discussion. I will agree that Marriott is on the expensive side but, I really love the way they've maintained the resorts we own and the resorts we've exchanged into.
