We are going to Disney in July (I know hot - hot - hot). We would like to take our 8 and 10 year old grand children fishing on the Disney Lakes. Has anyone done that? Would it be a good experience for the kids? I do not want to turn them off from fishing.

Thanks

I do not know about the lakes--but WDW resorts offer it

if they have never fished before, you might try dock fishing 1st. Both Port Orleans Riverside and Ft. Wilderness offer pole rental and bait. We are going to try one at Spring Break in April.

Fishing

I just took my sons (ages 8 and 10 ironically) fishing for the first time this past summer. A few hints:
-Let them practice casting from the shoreline. You don't want hooks flying on a boat. This was their favorite part of fishing.
-Ensure there aren't any trees or anything else they can hook within the vicinity.
-Use food for bait. We tried bologna but wasn't successful and it kept flying off. Hot dogs were a lot easier to hook. The best bait ended up being the steak from the previous night's dinner (fish have good taste). The kids enjoyed trying different foods and watching the fish's reaction.

Have fun!

Jr. Fishing--fyi I think they canceled this

last time I was at DVC, they told me that they were canceling Jr. fishing b/c of gas prices---I do not know if they ever reinstated it.
