Depuy-Shawnee
Has anybody stayed at or know about the Depuy-Shawnee Resort. Is this one of the Shawnee properties that Wyndham has taken over and updated? And would it be a decent quick spot to go to with young kids during Spring Break? Ages of kids 9,10, 15.

We stayed there a few years ago. The unit was large and comfortable but by no means fancy. We had a little cottage, not attached to any other. There is a large kitchen, living room with fireplace, and 2BRs upstairs. There were 2 Baths upstairs and a 1/2 bath downstairs. There is a deck for sitting and watching, but not much to watch as it is quiet. It is away from the main Shawnee complex and rec center, and you will need a car to get there. The section is by the river, and you can walk down to the banks. The quieter Shawnee Inn with an indoor and outdoor pool are close to Depuy. You can rent canoes there. There are barbeque grills outside and a big lawn for picknicking or frisbee.

Thanks for the quick overview, I like the fact that the indoor and outdoor pool is close to Depuy. Is there another good location in Shawnee that is close to the main Shawnee complex and rec center that you would recommend. Out of the Shawnee locations in that area would you recommed Depuy or another site that is closer or more updated? Thanks in advance for your reply.

I just went there and Wyndham DID NOT update the older units. They built new units which you will not likely see offered with RCI. We stayed in all of the Shawnee Depuy resorts and they are large, comfy, with not so great beds and very RUSTIC. If you want gold crown, or Silver quality, do not stay here you will be very disappointed.
We love it because the places are very large, my kids can run up and down stairs and not bother anyone. We are also close to the amusement park Dorney Park. Its a great base for a summer vacation with kids.

BTW, Shawnee used to have a shuttle bus to take people around the resort. In the summer, it ran on a schedule, but in the off-season and shoulder season, you would call when you needed it and the driver would bring it around to get you. I don't know if they still have it, but you could call Shawnee and ask.

There's Ridge Top and Ridge Top Summit. I've stayed in Ridge Top Summit, which are the new units at the top of the hill--too far to walk to the rec center.

Just back from RT last week. Housekeeping there is OK, but not great. Most units are about a 1/2 mile from the rec center, downhill there and uphill back to the unit. I also like it here as I don't need posh accommodations, but size and location (close to decent skiing) are most important to me.
BTW, Wyndam is offering $75 to go to the sales pitch. They also gave me numerous 1/2 price lift tickets for Shawnee mountain. I went in with my wife and newborn and started talking to a nice guy. He asked me about my timeshare experience and I just talked to him for about 10 minutes when he said "just fill this paper out and I'll get you over to gifting. Total time with a second sales pitch (even though there really wasn't a first) was 45 minutes. Entry level for developer sale is $13,000. All floating points. Don't know much more about their point system and don't really remember how many points this was for. |

In October we stayed at the Shawnee inn...just a quick overnight trip to the area. The outdoor pool by the river was destroyed by floods. They told us that they will never replace it because of the likelihood of it happening again. That river has a history of flooding. If that is the outside pool, near the depuy units, then it is no longer there. There is nice size indoor pool at the inn.
